For glorylinnemann
She was surprised when the flowers arrived. She wasn't seeing anyone, she didn't have a caring father who would send them, and Chase wouldn't have left the card blank. She worried about it for a minute, but then another crisis hit and she forgot all about them.
She didn't think about them again until another dozen arrived during the afternoon—12 perfect pink roses. The internet told her that meant friendship—but none of her friends save Chase was close enough to warrant this kind of gift…and when she'd called after they arrived he'd sworn on Angela that they weren't from him.
The third delivery came as she was walking out the door at 6 o'clock. She'd hurriedly thrown them all in her car, anxious to leave before more arrived.
When she got home she found three dozen more waiting outside her door. They were followed by chocolates and a huge teddy bear…then a tiny teddy bear…and a medium sized one too in the following 2 hours.
Was someone mistaking her for Goldie freaking locks?
Still…she had to admit that the roses were gorgeous, and the teddy bear's looked pretty cute sitting in a row on her couch.
Not that she was happy that a freaky anonymous person was sending her stuff, but since it was here and all she might as well enjoy it.
She was expecting another bear when the next package arrived, but instead she found a small tape recorder. A piece of paper reading, 'Play me' was attached to it. So she did.
Then she almost collapsed in shock at the voice that greeted her.
"Hello, Chloe. I'm sure I don't have to remind you to destroy this as soon as you listen but I will anyway. Happy Valentine's Day. I'm sure you've figured out that the flowers and everything are from me. Just my way of thanking you for watching my back all these months, for protecting me…and most importantly for being the only friend I have left. I hope you enjoyed your day Chloe. There's no one that deserves it more than you."
She listened to the silence as the tape continued to play nothing. She rewound it to listen again, but stopped herself. If she did she'd want to listen over and over. Instead she forced herself to smash it into pieces, to cut the tape up and then to put it in her bag to throw away in strategic places tomorrow. She wouldn't take a chance with his safety.
She walked over to her flowers, smiling as she breathed in their gorgeous scent. She had a chocolate, now that she knew they were safe, and then grabbed the medium sized teddy bear as she headed to bed. She clutched it to her as she dreamed of the man that bought it for her.
