A/N: Lyrics from the song Devotion by Hurts. Basically I was sitting at my computer listening to this song and staring at a blank page on word, and then I wrote this.

Disclaimer: i do not own the Vampire Diaries, nor do I own this amazing pair even though I wish I did.

I'm asking you to take me to safety this time... I could never leave without you.

During some of the nights they spend together at Stefan's crumped apartment, they start making plans, and Klaus doesn't realise how it happens; it just does. While they lay in bed in a mess of tangled limbs and rumpled sheets, they start talking about the places they have been to and the places they want to visit in the future.

Klaus has been almost everywhere, but Stefan still hasn't seen the world, not in the way Klaus is able to show it to him. If it wasn't for Mikael who will not lay at rest until he finds and kills Klaus, they would be able to leave together and travel around the world.

Yet, Klaus allows himself to talk with Stefan about those things only when he is drunk enough to attribute every emotion that swells inside him to the alcohol he has consumed.

One of those nights, Stefan says that he has never been to New York before, and Klaus blurts out ''I'll take you there.'' without thinking. He is stunned by how much longing and pain his words cause him, because he knows they are not true, cannot be true, the minute they leave his mouth.

Stefan must sense it, but he doesn't say anything. Klaus tried to break free from his embrace and leans back on his elbows to see the expression of the younger vampire's face, but Stefan just pulls him back into his arms, shifting his body so that they are both in a more comfortable position.

He speaks about the future, their future, and Klaus just closes his eyes, hearing Stefan's deep voice reverberate through his chest and letting himself get completely lost in him and what he is saying for a few moments.

Stefan talks about the city lights and how they would spend their days and nights together in the city that never sleeps, until he says ''...We'll be safe'' Klaus is frozen for a moment, his mind racing and wondering how much Stefan knows, how much he has been able to decipher about Mikael judging from the hybrid's century-long fear.

For only an instance, Klaus allows himself to imagine how his life with Stefan would be. They would share blood and kisses, secrets and alcohol. They would rule the vibrating with life New York city together, the hybrid and the ripper, and then they would move on to the next city or country, not because Klaus has to run away from his demons, but because he and Stefan want to.

We will be safe. Stefan's words ring wrong in Klaus' ears even though Klaus needs them so bad to be true, because it has been so long since he has last felt safe, or happy, or important. Stefan makes him feel all this, and because Klaus doesn't trust his own voice, but he also doesn't want Stefan to stop talking, he doesn't speak and just listens to Stefan's compelling, somewhat husky voice fill the silent of the bedroom through the whole night.

It doesn't matter that none of their plans will be able work, ever, and there is no need to mention that, because Stefan knows, they both do.
