Translations: Voices
I created this for the Person of Interest Discussion Forum, but wanted to post this here as well, from the telephone conversation in the Season 3 premiere, Liberty.
This was what was said. This is what we heard.

Exhausted, Carter walks into her bedroom. The phone rings.
Carter (thinking): I am seven kinds of tired, but I need to hear his voice.
Carter (to Reese): Heard about the shootout in the Flatiron District. Lot of damage, John. You get your man out alive?
Translation: Are you okay?
Reese replies: With a little help.
Translation: Yeah, I'm okay.
Reese (thinking): I know I just should let you get to bed, but I want my voice to be the last thing you hear before you close your eyes.
Reese: Listen, Carter, you doin' ok?"… It's been a while since we sat down and talked.
Translation: I miss you. I don't know how to fix what's broken between us.
Carter: I'm fine, John, you know, just gettin' with on my job.
Translation: I miss you, but I have things I need to do.
Reese: You know if you ever needed help…you just need to call me, right?
Translation: I know I wasn't there for you before, I want to be there for you now.
Carter: I know. Thanks.
Translation: I'm not ready to talk yet, but hearing your voice…is good.
She ends the call.
