Do they know?
Why today? Marley thought as she heard urgent knocking at the door. She was ten minutes late for taking over the ADD and now someone was trying to knock down her door. Barely awake she dived to the door. Whoever it is better have a good excuse she thought sleepily before opening the door to reveal Lieutenant Jenner. Jenner was as usual bright eyed and gave her a brilliant smile.
'Morning Miss Anderson.'
'What is it Lieutenant?' Marley replied sharply. She felt grouchy. After three nights of an hours sleep each she was exhausted and had just been guiltily nodding off when Jenner knocked at the door which had put her in a serious mood.
'Um you were meant to be at the team meeting.' Jenner responded cooly as Marley rubbed her eyes and started to shiver. Jenner looked as he noticed she was in her pjs, red trousers and grey top and quickly turned away.
'Be right there' Marley said closing the door on Jenner as he nodded and walked away.
A few minutes later, changed out of her pjs, she rushed to the hub. Jess turned and smiled as she entered and was greeted back with a quick nod. Marley darted up the steps two at a time, nearly bumping into Becker and Matt who were just leaving Lester's office. Marley has missed the meeting. Feeling completely unlike her usual self she let herself fall onto the top step as Abby, Connor and Emily passed he with a 'hi' or two. Lying down she closed her eyes for a couple of seconds almost giving up. As she opened them she was greeted by the sight of an upside down Jenner who was laughing.
'What's so funny?!' Marley snapped as she sat up. Becker and Jess turned to face them as she did surprised. Marley never snapped at anyone, well not usually, usually being calm, collected and lively. Jenner was also visibly surprised as he put his hand down that he had been offering to Marley to help her up. 'I'm sorry. I'm tired. Ignore me'
'Never Miss Anderson.' Jenner answered offering her his hand once more. This time without a word Marley took it and rewarded Jenner with a smile.
'Thank you'
'No problem. I understand Miss Anderson,' he replied as he pulled her up and she nearly fell into him as a result, only stopping herself with a hand on his shoulder. Becker tried not to snigger over by the ADD. Only Jenner would be able to make someone that exhausted smile! He knew that Marley had been working insane hours. It was no wonder she was exhausted. Everyone could see it. Jess followed Becker's gaze to where their colleagues were still standing with a smile.
'Do you think we should say something?' Jess asked Becker with a smile.
Jess didn't get a chance. Lester sick of the sight of Jenner and Marley had walked out of his office. Jess and Becker returned to their work.
'Miss Anderson get some rest before you collapse and cause even more paperwork for me. Jenner see her where she needs to go then get to work!'
'Yes sir'
Marley looked as if she wanted to object but thought better of it. She had no energy and no fight left. Lester nodded in satisfaction as he returned to his office.
'Where to?'
'I am capable of walking myself thank you Lieutenant.'
'I have my orders,' conteracted Jenner as they left the hub. Jess snuck a quick glance back as they did.
'When will they realise?' she said with a tut as she continued her work.
