It was midnight in Pelican Town. The shops and homes were locked up and everyone was in bed to sleep. Except, however, for two particular people. The Farmer, who had come into town about a season ago, and the carefree skater, who was finding excuses to talk to the cute farmer constantly.

The Dance of the Moonlight Jellies festival was just a few hours ago, but it was had to sleep after such a display of natural beauty. At least, that was Sam's excuse for not sleeping after the event every year. The farmer, on the other hand, was uneasy. She felt something was wrong, but couldn't put her finger on quite what it was.

That's how both young people found each other at the docks. Their greetings felt awkward and forced.

"What are you doing up so late?" The farmer asked after several minutes of mutual silence.

"I can never sleep after the jellies visit. It's always just... so beautiful." Sam said.

"Ahh..."

"How about you? Why aren't you in bed missy?"

The farmer stammered. "I... I don't know."

"Is something bothering you?" Sam asked, tearing his gaze from the waves that crashed fluidly against the beams of the dock.

"I guess..." admitted the farmer with a sigh.

"You can tell me, if you want. I won't tell anyone if I don't have to."

The farmer paused again. "I... I don't know. It's just... I'm not used to it, I guess."

"Not used to what?"

"Just... my new lifestyle. Yeah, I'm happy and proud of what I've done so far, but..." Sam nodded, telling the farmer to keep going. "I don't know.. I just wish I didn't feel so alone, even with all these people around me."

"Yeah, I know how that feels. But, honestly, it's kinda surprising to hear that from you."

"Huh?"

"I mean, you're so kind... You're great with the local kids... It's just not what I'd expect to hear."

"Well... surprise." Said the farmer with sloppy jazz hands. Sam chuckled.

"I understand, though." He said, closing his eyes.

"Can I admit something to you?" asked the farmer, nervously.

"Of course." Sam smiled.

"I've always fantasized about my..." She blushed. "...my first kiss."

Sam seemed shocked. "You haven't had your first kiss either?"

She chuckled at how ridiculous it sounded. "Yeah... I've dreamt about it."

"You must trust people pretty easily to be telling someone like me that." Sam grinned.

"Why do you say that?" She asked.

"Because I might offer to take care of that worry for you." He said with a strange feeling of boldness.

The farmer blushed and covered her face with her hands, stammering.

Sam immediately sat on his knees and held her shoulders, blushing and stammering. "I'm sorry- I didn't mean to- I was just-"

The farmer leaned up on her knees and kissed the blond in one motion. The two held it for a few seconds before parting and sitting back down. Both faces were red and smiling. The farmer put her hand on Sam's arm and leaned her head on his shoulder.

"That was like everything I had dreamed..." She admitted.

"G-Good. I'm glad." Sam smiled. "Hey farmer?" No answer. "Farmer?" Sam looked to the girl on his arm. She was asleep and smiling. After carrying her to the farm and laying her in her bed, he tacked a note to her door that said "Thank you for making last festival the best I've ever had. -Sam".
