This was the last place he wanted to be.

It was his day off and he had just wanted to take his baby sister out shopping, it had been quite a while and she had looked so happy. He had been too complacent, had let down his guard a little and desperation had tried to make up for it. This had been his one request, their wish, and this person had taken advantage of it. Tsuna, Chrome, Ipin were going to be so angry about this.

The tiniest gap in his defence - and it felt like his ribs were shattered; surely his arm was dislocated, his right eye was swelling and a rivet of blood fell into the other.

"Please be ok," she breathed. Her face was crumpled in tears as she looked down at him, arms cradling his head and he had never wanted her to look like that again. Struggling to breath, still he would surge to his feet - the sun never gave up - but an almost imperceptible noise made him pause. She put him down and straightened her form, dipping a hand into her purse.

A normal life had been his gift to her and she had accepted this, knew how it would pain him that she be drawn into his world and that it would one day come to something like this.

"I'm sorry."

Their villain of the week was turned away, laughing to himself at the downfall of the Vongola Sun Guardian. The tiniest gap in his defence -

and suddenly there was a hole in his heart.

She lowered her arm, her face as dry as bone.

My headcanon for her and Haru back in 2014.
