This is really short, partly because this was made on a whim, so I didn't really think about what I was going to write about. I have a soft spot for childhood friends, which is why I like Penguinshipping and Twinleafshipping so much.

Loosely based on My Antonia, by Willa Cather.

My Dee Dee

"Why do you call her Dee Dee, Kenny?"

Because, the world knows her as Dawn, a rising star in the Coordinator world. It's her name, and everyone calls her that. But Dee Dee is a special name, especially for me. Sure, a few of our friends growing up call her that too, but Dee Dee holds a special place in my heart.

Dee Dee is first off and foremost, my childhood friend, the little girl that I've known as far as I remember. As a kid, it was always the three of us- me, Leona and Dee Dee. We were inseparable, and it was never Kenny, Dawn and Leona alone. If someone needed one of us, we all went.

Dee Dee is a part of me. Whatever I do, I have her in mind. Whatever I decide, I think of her. When I left Twinleaf Town to start on my journey, I was determined that before I met her again, I would grow stronger and make her proud of me. As it turns out, she grew up more than me, but that didn't bother me. It gave me even more motivation to grow stronger.

Dee Dee is also my atonement to the past. Dee Dee is a little girl's name- yeah, I know she isn't a little girl anymore, but to me, I still see the bright-eyed energetic motivated little girl that I knew so well. No matter how time changes us, and no matter what we go through, she still has the same spirit. I almost thought that after her appeal loss at Solaceon town, her spirit was broken, but when she was at the Wallace Cup, she was my Dee Dee again. I'm not saying that she's perfect- I'm not that disillusioned, but she tries. When she's sad, she hides it- she always has. But she doesn't fool me, and she never has.

Dee Dee is another way for me to stake a claim on her. When I learned that she and Ash were traveling together, I was jealous. I don't want anyone else to have her, and I exercise my right of calling her Dee Dee as both a term of endearment and a reminder of the bond we share, something no one else has.

And lastly, Dee Dee is the landmark of my love for her. They say when a guy teases a girl, as I do, it means he likes her. That was never true for me.

I was always in love with her.
