Ello! Excluding the Author Notes, the word count is exactly what was required. It was challenging and interesting
He hadn't expected that. Never would the "Greatest Wizard of the Age" have suspected that maybe, just maybe had he hadn't fallen to the temptation calling him, well maybe he wouldn't be so close to death. The urge to see her again, the dead who haunted his dreams, the one who made him realized what truly was wrong. She put a stop to the power drawing into him, but she was dead. And he was selfish for wanting to see her again. But of course, even with the curse numbering his days, Death is but the next great adventure right?
Severus only confirmed what he knew, what he had already felt as the curse spread through his hand, the world a swirl of blurs when the curse came upon him. He should not have been so foolish. At least he had a plan, should the worse come (which he was hoping for). His death would leave many grieving, but they all still needed to fight, because his death was coming soon. Death and preparing the others for the fight to come was what truly laid in his dark foolish future.
Popping a lemon drop into his mouth he pondered what would happen in his bitter demise. In mere months, death would come to the door, but hopefully only greet him briefly and instantaneously before he was killed. He knew he wouldn't be able to stop the tears from coming from his friends, nor the accusations that would fly to Severus. He could only help as much as he could, and then he'd be gone. Everything had to go to plan.
Severus told him to fight it, not give into the curse. He knew that Severus hated what was to come. But who liked it? Who actually wants to murder someone? A stranger would only be too easy to kill as you never took time to learn of them. But an actual friend who was the only one that trusted you? A friend who needed to be killed to ease pain?
It wasn't death that was the obstacle; it was leaving the people who'd be forced into leadership too quickly, not knowing. He knew it'd be taxing on Minerva, Remus, and Harry. He chuckled thinking: Minerva would hide behind a façade, Remus would want revenge, and Harry would use that temper. He frowned. Was it really easy to laugh at grief?
The lessons with Harry became more knowledgeable to the boy. While it helped Harry, it also made Albus realize the end for him was coming closer. Severus's protests to end life early were more, but he needed Severus to go through. Draco would definitely fail killing him but Severus couldn't.
The preparation for the last night living came. He had just finished telling Fawkes the instructions to what would happen when he died, presumably that he wasn't going to peck Severus's eyes out, if Severus was to face his demons.
The Order very was suspicious. And they had every right to be, since his last meeting with them left them all in warm hugs that smelled of acceptance and peace.
The Cave was approached and dealt with very quickly. Flashes of Arianna's death were the last regret he ever had.
Albus Dumbledore's bitter end was for the greater good right?
