Slipping Away
By tormented
"Do you feel it?" She murmured against his lips.
He pulled back and smiled slightly, "Feel what?"
"That tension. That pure unadulterated raw sexual tension." She untangled herself from his arms and circled him, "That passion. The rage inside you. Let it all out."
He reached out to pull her back against him but she pushed against his chest and walked farther away.
"You don't feel it. you need to feel it. It wont be right without you feeling it."
He nodded and rested himself on his heels, "Nothing. I feel nothing."
"Feel something." She pleaded with him, "Something you need to."
"I can't" He answered, "It's all just too much."
"Please. For me, Don't let it end like this."
"End like what? End like it's supposed to? Like it was planned?" He was ready to explode and she sensed it.
"It wasn't supposed to end like this." The tears weren't forming, "We were supposed to stay together, grow old. Not end like this."
The roles were reversing, she couldn't do anything, couldn't even will herself to cry. Her voice was strong and never wavered, however she longed for those strangled cries that came from deep within her. And he, was feeling everything. Everything that he was numb to was coming back. His love was coming to a screeching halt and, the rage was coming out. That madness that he kept bottled upside was coming out.
He wasn't calm. Not in the least bit. He was angry at the world. His one and only love was leaving him, and he knew it was supposed to happen like this. But in a weird sort he was calm. He was at peace with himself.
"No. It was supposed to end like this. You in my arms, me being angry at the world for taking you away from me." He reached out and took her into his arms, "We're too explosive we would have never lasted, the love wasn't enough."
"BUT IT WAS."
"No, couldn't have been." He shook his head slightly, "But i still love you. I still need you."
"You don't need me." Her head was hung low and those truths that she held in were coming back out, "You do fine on your own. Just fine. You win on your own. I did nothing."
"You loved me."
"I used you. Used you power. Used you for revenge. and I got my revenge. But now its all over."
"Steph, please no." The tears were threatening to spill over now.
"I have to, HUnter. You have to let it end." His grip tightened, "You were right. It was all planned. It was fate. serendipity even."
"You can't leave me now. Hold on. Just a little longer." He pleaded with a lone tear slipping down his cheek.
She wiped it away, "I can't Hunter, It's my time."
She started to slip then. Slowly but she was still slipping away from reality and the troubles of her failed marriage. Away from everything, to a peaceful place where nothing bad could happen to her.
She was gone.
