There are jumps in time because they are memories.
I recommend listening to watch?v=M6EXUQUXtgI
" You are my sweetest downfall ," the man spoke as he ran his fingers through silken black hair. Yao stifled a sob as he leaned into the gentle touch. Brown eyes met amber as the man then leaned down to place a chaste kiss on Yao's lips before he rose out of the imperial bed.
Silently watching his lover leave, Yao spoke only after the man had left," But I loved you first."
I loved you first
.
Even after four thousand years, Yao could remember his last moments with his Da Qin (Roman Empire) like it was etched in his mind with a hot poker. The memory burned so bad it made his eyes sting with unwanted tears. After all this time of running away, of putting up walls to outsiders and hiding behind hated alliances Yao no longer had the strength to do it. He looked down at his lap to look at the article that had ripped open his scars. "Nova Roma founded. Revival of Rome?" the title had said. He lovingly traced the letters R, O, M, A.
" Beneath the sheets of paper lies my truth. "
Revival of Rome? Yao could only hope. Blinking his eyes wearily, Yao slowly fell asleep in place, clutching the newspaper to his chest. Unwillingly, his memories tainted his dreams.
" I have to go. Serica, I have to go. "
Yao hide his frown behind his flowing sleeves as he narrowed his eyes at the Roman before him. Romulus was as tactless as ever. Not even saying he was leaving until the last second. How was Yao suppose to prepare for his departure if the man wouldn't even say when he was leaving? Didn't Romulus care about him? Did he have someone else he wanted to eagerly return to?
Angered by the thought, Yao boldly reached out to grab the departing Roman's cape, tugging him back. Levelly, although the very possibility that Romulus has other lovers made him flare up in jealousy, Yao inquired the confident man," Do you have other lovers to return to? Wives perhaps?"
He is caught off guard by soft chuckles that emit from the taller man. Romulus's laughter died down as the Roman reached down to pull his Serica into an embrace. In a cooing voice, honeyed with drops of Latin, Romulus spoke reassuringly," Is my serica imperatrici (silk empress) jealous? Do not worry, Yao. There is no one in Rome that I love more than you. Te amo."
Yao, secretly pleased at the confession, hid his flushed cheeks by burrowing into the Roman's strong chest. A small doubt escaped his lips before Yao could stop himself, " But what if you do not come back, Da Qin?"
Romulus with a small smile, reached up to loosen a strand of Yao's tresses of hair. Holding the black silk to his lips, Romulus then also placed a kiss on Yao's forehead, " As long as this black silk is crowning your head, I will always return to my empress."
Feeling his heart race at the touch, Yao pulled the Roman's closer to him, meeting their lips in a kiss. His eyes confident in love, Yao stated, almost childishly, " My hair will be even longer than when we first met. That way you will have to come back to me."
Waving goodbye to the disappearing ships, Yao would eagerly wait for his conqueror's return.
A later memory would have Yao remember how in the heat of westernization and despair of his lost love, he had foolishly chopped off his black locks. As his silken crown fell into pieces around his feet, Yao remembered in misery that the Roman never kept his promise.
"Why did you abandoned me, Romulus? Why did you leave your silk empress to rot alone?"
Samson went back to bed.
Not much hair left on his head.
He ate a slice of wonder bread,
and went right back to bed.
