The clock just hit 7:30am and Scott Cam was in the midst of getting ready. He set aside a few moments to complete his daily prayers for the cancellation of Channel 7's Ground Force. How he hated the smug faces on that rival show. He firmly believed that their backyard renovations were supremely inferior to the work of the almighty Blitz crew. Following these prayers, he was ready to go. He grabbed a quick breakfast of vegemite toast before ambling down the stairs into the waiting Channel 9 production truck. It would be a 45 minute drive from his hotel in South Bank to the Sutton family's house in an undisclosed location on Brisbane's north side. He was feeling excited. A new day. A new challenge. A new family to surprise. He loved his work. He got to work with his good friends Nigel Ruck and Jody Rigby as well as the show's affable host Jamie Durie. He often wondered how he got to be in the position he was in. He was raised in the inner suburbs of Sydney where he had no aspirations of stardom. He began his work life as a humble carpenter, not unlike Jesus Christ, which he did for three years. He then travelled around Australia in his four-wheel drive before a chance encounter led him to the glitzy life of television, and Backyard Blitz. It was a rapid rise to success for him. He immediately proved popular with the viewing audience and was subsequently nominated for multiple Logies before winning the big one in 2014. Alongside Backyard Blitz, he also appeared in similar series Renovation Rescue and the short-lived Our Place. To many observers, these shows seemed virtually identical. They pretty much were. Cam was not bothered by this, however. He thoroughly enjoyed his work and had no qualms about the lack of originality in his various shows. Before he knew it, the production truck arrived at the day's location. He glanced at the nondescript brick house wondering about the state of its backyard, for that is where the action takes place. His ears pricked as he could hear loud noises coming from the interior of the dwelling. He heard a male voice yelling virtually incoherently about hoists and tradies. Cam was too focused on the preparation for the day to take notice of these background noises. Little did he know.
