We Make the Same Mistakes
With time, Flight has learned many things. But one thing marimbas through her head on the way home.
You can't trust anyone.
And Flight doesn't.
Flight is 8 years old and the eldest of three. Mom and Dad love her very much, even if Dad isn't home much.
Flight is 8 years old when Mom leaves to go north. She says she'll come back as soon as possible. She doesn't come back at all.
Dad spirals down into a drunken rage, and Flight learns a valuable lesson she won't soon forget. Trust No One.
Flight is 9 years old when Dad remarries. Carley is nice, with long blonde hair and soft brown eyes.
Flight is 9 when Amber and Kayla are born. She knows that the new babies will calm Dad long enough for the school year to begin. He can't beat her during the school year, because then people will get suspicious.
Flight is 14 when Kayla's diagnosed with Leukemia. It's the same year Harvey Dent becomes the DA. Flight secretly hopes that Dad'll get arrested. The bastard deserves it, after all.
Flight is 14 when the Joker says he's going to kill the mayor. Vespen is unsettled, and Mom's clan is known for bottling Dust, from both ally and enemy. She uses this as an advantage. Now, as far as Gotham knows, Jim Gordon is dead and gangs go to jails by the thousands.
Flight is 14 when Vespen settles. He's nearly three feet at the shoulder, with green eyes like her and the ruggedness of a predator. He's a wolf, and if anyone doesn't like it, they can go and kiss her ass.
Flight is 22 when she graduates the academy. Most of her teachers were shocked by her career choice. The daughter of Mobster king who wants to be a cop. The irony is laughable, but the teachers watch her work hard. She damn well deserves this job.
Flight is 22 when Bane takes over the city. Penny, who's 19 now, wants to find Mom. Flight shakes her head and says that if Mom wanted to help, she would have never left. That's how things are now, with no faith in anyone except for Penny and Auric, her hummingbird daemon.
Flight is 22 when she and Penny steal from the wrong people. They get cornered in an alleyway by five guys, all of them with daemons that could kill. Flight kills all five, but gets a knife in her eye for her trouble. One of Bane's men found them, took Flight to medical help. The news is grim, but it could've been much worst. Flight will live to fight again, but she will never see in her left eye ever again.
Flight is 22 when she becomes an assassin for Bane.
Flight is 22 when Penny gets killed by a man with a gun.
Flight is 23 when she meets John Blake and his daemon Josie.
Flight is 23 when she finally finds peace.
