Something wet splatters on my cheek as I stare into grey skies. Pain hums through every nerve, making it impossible to move. I'm stuck on my back as the clouds start to weep. Slowly, painfully, I reach over and drag the Buster Sword to my side.

"Zack!" I know that voice, but can't put a face to it. My mind is foggy. It's hard to think. Blonde hair and blue eyes pierce the silver veil above me. His name is Cloud, and the open horror on his face only makes the pain worse.

"Zack, don't go!" There's a desperate pitch to his voice. My world is turning grey.

Cloud…

Using the last of my strength, I lift the Buster Sword for him to take. His small fist closes around the hilt, and I reach up. I can't feel the soft, blonde locks through the leather gloves I can't take off, but I know they're there. My voice won't leave my throat. All I can do is pull his forehead to my chest and drop my hand.

"Zack! Zack, don't go! Please!" My eyes slide shut.

His voice is all I carry with me in my dark descent.
