It was late August, and while everyone else was out celebrating the end of summer, Perseus Jackson sat on a dock, alone. I've been alone with my thoughts for too long, he thought. Maybe I should just go up and get some sleep. Then again, his sleeping hours hadn't been much better than he waking ones. Nearly every night since the war ended, he'd been visited by dreams. Dark dreams. Flashing of the battle came back to him, flashes of a blond boy he knew, but could never save, flashes of a strange girl's face. Humans might call it PTSD, but Percy knew better. Demigod dreams usually weren't normal dreams, and they generally carried some prophetic meaning.
"Hey, Seaweed Brain." Percy jumped as Annabeth settled beside him. "You brooding again?"
"No," Percy said defensively, although she wasn't far off. "Shouldn't you be celebrating with Nico and Grover or something?"
"Not when my boyfriend's down here doing his best Bella Swan impression," she quipped. "What's up with you anyways? You're not usually so standoffish."
Percy stood up sharply. He didn't normally get mad at Annabeth, but after days and days of asking, her questions were starting to get annoying. He didn't know why he wasn't telling her about the dreams. Maybe it was out of fear, or maybe because he didn't want her to be worried about him. Well, more worried than she normally was. "Look, did you just come here to grill me? 'Cause I'm not in the mood," he said, brushing off his shorts and crossing his arms.
Annabeth stood up too, a frown creasing her brow. She was still annoyingly, endearingly taller than Percy by a few inches. "No, actually. I came to get you because we're holding a Head Counselor meeting."
Percy sighed. Over the last few months, he'd been to more meetings than he'd like to admit. "Why?"
"Because Thalia and Grover just came into camp, dragging a young demigod with them."
"Okay, that's great. We have another demigod. Why the meeting though?"
"Because," Annabeth said, grey eyes burning into him. "When she got to the Big House, she was claimed by Artemis."
