Chapter 1: Not Listening

Mokuba sat on the side of the curb, patiently awaiting his brother to come and pick him up. His eyes were staring blankly at the sheet of paper that was held in his hands in front of him, he sighed. This was one of his lowest marks, and Mokuba was sure his brother wasn't going to be too happy about it either. Mokuba furiously ripped the paper in half and letting blow in the wind.

Mokuba looked down in sorrow, when he noticed he was currently sitting in the shadow of another person. Mokuba looked up to see Logan standing over him, a grin on his face.

"It's not a good idea to litter, Mokuba. Don't you realization how big of an issue global warming is at this day and age?" Mokuba got up off the steps and stood up, although Mokuba was still shorter than the opposing boy by a couple inches in height.

"Look Logan, I don't want any trouble," Mokuba stated in a calm manner, even though he was already beginning to become angry. Logan was smart, but he was also arrogant as well as rude. The boy simply had no manners, and had decided long ago that Mokuba would be his rival the second he found out Mokuba was the smartest kid in class.

"What's the matter, Kaiba? Afraid I'll ace a test you flunked again? Face it, I'm better than you." Mokuba spotted Seto's limo pulling up to the curb and his worry started to fade away. He reached backwards and grabbed his backpack off the ground.

"Keep telling yourself that," Mokuba said, feeling good about his simple, yet to the point come back. Mokuba tried to walk past Logan, but Logan continued to stand in his way. Mokuba tried to push him away, but Logan ended up grabbing the back of his shirt and tossing Mokuba to the ground.

"I will keep telling myself that, and I'll prove it to," Logan said, a fist in the air ready for impact. Mokuba flinched, hoping Logan wasn't going to hit him as hard as he looked like he was going to hit him. Just then, the sounds of footsteps were heard and another being was present, casting a shadow over both of them. Mokuba opened his eyes to see Seto standing over them, a grim look on his face.

"I'll give you about five seconds to put him down before I'm forced to get involved." Logan's eyes widened with surprise and awe.

"Seto Kaiba? Thee Seto Kaiba?"

"You only have about two seconds now…" Logan dropped Mokuba to the ground and turned around so that he could fully face Seto.

"What are you doing here?" Logan asked, "Shouldn't you be working at Kaiba Corp.?"

"I would be, but I had a younger brother to pick up from school." Logan turned back and looked at Mokuba, whom had gotten off the ground and was proceeding to brush the dirt off his shirt.

"Him? You can't be serious that Mokuba is your younger brother."

"Surprise, surprise," Mokuba said in a sarcastic voice, before finishing off what was left on his shirt and walking over to Seto. "Can we go now?" Mokuba asked in a low voice.

"Hold on now, Mokuba…" Seto turned his attention back towards Logan, "So… are you a fan of mine?" Logan nodded.

"Huge fan, my father actually works for you. His name is Dan, if you're ever trying to look him up. He works in the engineering department." Mokuba started to tug on Seto's sleeve.

"Nii-sama… let's go…" Mokuba whispered. Why was Seto bothering to even talk to this kid? Seto didn't like talking to anyone, so why would he want to talk to the kid that just attempted to beat Mokuba up?

Seto scratched his chin, "Ah… yes, I remember Dan now. Good man, a good worker too. Consider him fired." Logan's amazed face vanished within seconds. Mokuba slapped his forehead and attempted to hide his face from Logan's vicious eyes.

"What?"

"As punishment for hurting my brother, you're father will be fired. You'll get a letter in the mail by tomorrow. Have a nice day." Seto twisted around and walked back to the limo. Mokuba hurried after him, quickly glancing back at Logan. Logan stood motionless and mouth the words 'I'm going to kill you.' Mokuba jumped into the limo and shut the door.

"Go!" Mokuba commanded, the limo driver speeding off onto the street. Mokuba stared out the window to make sure Logan wasn't following them before looking over at his brother. "What was that for Nii-sama?"

"What do you mean? The boy needed to be punished for what he did to you."

"So you fired his dad? Do you even know what you've just done? Now Logan's going to come after me like there's no tomorrow." Mokuba slumped in the chair and placed his hand over his eyes, "Oh man… I'm so dead." Seto rolled his eyes.

"Don't worry, nothing's going to happen to you. I'll simply call up the school tonight and arrange it to have him expelled from school." Mokuba sat up.

"What?!"

"He won't bother you anymore after that."

"Um, Nii-sama, are you PYSCHO? You can't just expel people for one little fight, one that didn't even erupt into much of a real fight." Seto crossed his arms.

"You'll thank me later, Mokuba."

"No I won't! Logan's going to want to kill me even more if you get him expelled!"

"Look Mokuba, we're not discussing it any further." Mokuba shook his head and looked into the opposite direction out the window. That was such a typical Seto Kaiba move. Seto ALWAYS did things like that, taking tiny things and dealing with them in the most extreme way.

Mokuba understood that Seto cared; you would have to be to not see it. But… Seto would go to such lengths to protect him and it was exhausting. If anything happened to him, he would make sure of it that that person would pay severely. Even to the point where once he actually got a man exiled from the country of Japan. Mokuba couldn't stand it sometimes; Seto's protectiveness was suffocating Mokuba!

It was a normal occurrence for Mokuba to wish he had a normal life, the kind with a normal family, one with a mom and a dad, instead of one worrisome older brother. Mokuba figured it must've had something to do with the fact that their parents were dead. Mokuba could respect Seto for taking such responsibility, but not taking it this far. Seto could prove to be quite an extremist in that regard.

The limo pulled up into the driveway and his brother left first. Mokuba remained sitting within the limo for a bit, until the driver turned around and told Mokuba to leave. Mokuba rolled his eyes and got out of the limo, still feeling resistant to the idea of going into the Kaiba Mansion. Mokuba needed to get away, just for a little bit. Mokuba decided to go on a little walk, maybe that would help him calm his nerves.

Mokuba started down the sidewalk, looking down at the ground and nowhere else as he walked. 'My brother never listens to me... he just treats me like a little kid. No one else thinks I'm a kid.' Mokuba stopped, his anger level rising until his eyes spotted Yugi walked towards him from a block away. Mokuba's face lightened up a bit as he ran over to Yugi.

"Hey Yugi," Mokuba said, walking over to him. Yugi looked up and smiled as he ran ahead to meet up with Mokuba as well.

"Hey Mokuba, what's up?"

"Oh, nothing much," Mokuba lied, "What are you up to?" Yugi started to blush a little.

"Oh, well... I'm just coming back from walking Tea home from our date... but don't tell her I told you that, I don't think she wants me calling it a date." Yugi chuckled, putting his hand behind his head and grinning. A date... Mokuba wondered when Seto would start dating. From what Mokuba was aware of, Seto had never gone on a date in his life. He supposed that was just another reason his brother was abnormal.

"So what are you doing walking around all by yourself? Is your brother close by?" Yugi asked. Mokuba frowned, why did everyone always think that he stalked his brother?

"You know, it is possible for me to breathe without my brother being within a ten inch radius of me," Mokuba said, crossing his arms in annoyance. Yugi frowned.

"Is something wrong Mokuba?"

"No!" Yugi placed his hand on Mokuba's shoulder.

"I think something is wrong... want to talk about it?" Mokuba's frown disappeared as he looked into Yugi's eyes. He was sincere... and he was actually going to listen to him. Yugi really cared about how Mokuba felt. Mokuba sighed.

"It's just that... Seto treats me like a little kid, and he never listens to what I have to say. It gets really annoying, and sometimes I just want to yell." Yugi patted Mokuba on the back as they began walking down the sidewalk together.

"It's okay to feel that way, I'm sure I'd feel the same way if I was in your situation. But you have to realize your brother only does it because he cares so much for you." Mokuba shook his head.

"No he doesn't, he does it to control me. He thinks that just because he's Seto Kaiba that he can boss me around and run my life."

"That's not it at all, I think you're taking this the wrong way." Mokuba shrugged as he turned towards Yugi.

"My brother has always been such a jerk to you... so why are you standing up for him?"

"Cause I know your brother, and he really does care about you. And I'm sure deep down inside, he feels the same for me too." Mokuba started to chuckle.

"Sorry Yugi, but that's just too funny." Yugi smirked.

"Okay, I admit, it's a stretch. But one of these days, I'm telling you. One of these days he'll admit that he's always thought of me as a friend." Mokuba and Yugi started laughing together up until they were standing in front of the Kaiba Mansion. Mokuba stopped and looked at it, his sadness and anger returned just by looking at the mansion. "You gotta believe me when I tell you he cares. Your brother's a good guy." Mokuba sighed.

"Alright Yugi, I guess I can trust you this one time..." Yugi smiled and gave Mokuba a thumbs up just before walking down the sidewalk once more in the direction of the Game Shop. Mokuba was walking towards the Kaiba Mansion, when he stopped and turned around. "Yugi, wait." Yugi stopped and looked at Mokuba.

"Yeah?" Mokuba gave him a half smile.

"...Thanks." Yugi nodded.

"Anytime." Mokuba continued up the driveway and to the door, thinking about all that Yugi said. Seto was always telling Mokuba he did the things he did because he cared, but hearing it come from Yugi just made it seem... real. Yugi was an honest guy, and he always meant the things he would say. He didn't live a life like Seto; a life in which he pretends to be a cold hearted monster 99 percent of the time. One where Mokuba is questions whether that 1 percent of good within him is still present to this day or not.

But Yugi's words had lifted Mokuba's spirits all the same, so when he had opened the door to the Kaiba Mansion, a smile on his face still remained. "MOKUBA! Where on earth have you been?!" The smile disappeared instantly when he spotted Seto running down the stairway looking at him with a scowl. "I just the sent the SWAT team out to look for you!" Mokuba gave a loud groan.

"Nii-sama! I was just out on a walk! I was only gone for, like, 20 minutes at the most!" Seto stood in front of Mokuba with his hands on his hips.

"It takes a lot less than 20 minutes for you to get hurt! What if someone had kidnapped you??" Mokuba glared at him. If Mokuba had kept a record of how many times someone had asked him that, he'd have to hire someone to manage the record.

"NII-SAMA. Chill OUT. I wasn't even by myself for that long, I met up with Yugi and he stayed with me for most of the time." Seto's eyes widened.

"WHAT? Mokuba! What have I told you about hanging out with Muto? And what on earth makes you think he can protect you from kidnappers?! Have you seen how tall he is? Any kidnapped would probably end up kidnapping him too!"

"Yugi might not be the tallest guy, but at least he knows how to listen to people!" Mokuba pushed by his brother and over towards his room. Mokuba could hear Seto coming to follow him.

"Hey! We are not through here, Mokuba! Come back!" Mokuba walked into his room and shut the door behind him, locking it quickly to insure that Seto couldn't get in. Mokuba could hear the knob trying to be forced open.

"Just go AWAY!" Mokuba commanded, throwing his body onto his bed and burying his face within his pillow. He could tell it was going to be a long night, one that Mokuba wasn't looking forward to enduring.

But outside Mokuba's room, and high above the Kaiba Mansion, the stars twinkled that night with the promise of change.

A/N: Okay, so I do realize that is a SUPER weird way to end it. But for some reason, a good ending just wasn't coming to me. But rest assured, I actually just got a brilliant idea for this brand new chapter story, basically within the second I started writing the last sentence that is so good, you'll take a second glance at my story and think 'What is she talking about?' But believe me, this story, because of my random idea, is just about to get ten times more awesome, and ten times more fun for me to write! So once I get this puppy going, it's going to be one heck of a ride! In other news, I hoped you liked it so far(although I will admit the first chapter is quite the borfest) but just see where it goes and then you'll get excited. Thanks for reading!

P.S: Sorry the summary kind of sucks, it was really hard to try and explain what was going on with barely any text. I hope you sort of understand where I'm going with this. You just gotta stick with me and BELIEVE IT!
