She'd never realized her boyfriend lived in a mansion. Yes, she knew that his family was very rich, but a mansion?

Reminding herself of the fact that she barely knew anything about how old Wizarding families worked, she took a deep breath and walked in.

There was no reason to be nervous, but she was, because this was the first time she'd be entering James' parents' house, a house which, if this relationship went how she wanted it to, would soon house her and hordes of little Potter-Evans children.

The hallway housed a large Christmas tree which could put the Whomping Willow to shame. There was fake snow falling from the ceiling, akin to the ceiling of the Great Hall of Hogwarts, and the house looked like a winter wonderland.

The thing that Lily liked most about the house was not its grandeur, but the fact that everything, in spite of the intricate decoration, exuded a warm, homelike feeling which made her feel safe and secure.

They had invited James and his parents to the Evans family home for Christmas Eve, and, unbeknownst to either pairs of parents, James and Lily had spent the night in a way which would surely make Callum Evans blow through the roof.

Today, it was the turn of the Potters to welcome the Evanses to their home.

"PRONGS! EVANS! You're back!" shouted a voice which Lily recognized all-too-well. Sirius Black, prankster extraordinaire and self-proclaimed 'most eligible bachelor on earth' waltzed into the room, attacking them both with a bear hug.

"Oh sweet mama of cakes! Blinky made a chocolate yule log!" Sirius grabbed James' hand, presumably to drag him away to the kitchen.

Boys will be boys, she thought, allowing herself to be led to the dining room.

Lunch was more-or-less peaceful, apart from James and Sirius setting off several fireworks in the hall. It was after lunch that the more interesting part of the day started.

James scooped her up, heading for the nearest mistletoe. Lily was allergic to mistletoe. If he'd just asked, they could have sneaked out for a quick snog. No such luck.

The sneezes started as soon as they reached the mistletoe. They weren't delicate sneezes which could be passed off as cute. No, Lily's sneezes were loud and raucous, and the force of the sneeze somehow managed to knock the whole branch down, which made Lily's pale skin erupt in unbecoming rashes.

James' mother came back to her senses first and jumped into full Healer mode, grabbing potions, cotton swabs and other medical supplies. She levitated Lily into the guest room, force-feeding her a number of potions which made her quite drowsy.

When she woke up, the first thing she noticed was James' concerned face looming above her. He launched into a series of explanations about how incredibly sorry he was about the mistletoe and possibly endangering her life. She giggled a little, ruffling his hair and assuring him that she was fine. The rashes were gone and she wasn't sneezing, after all.

"Lils, I know that this is the probably not a good time, what with you being sick and all that, but it's now or never. Lily Evans, love of my life, will you marry me?"

The rest was history.

A little Christmas present for you guys. SoaR (Shine of a Ruby) should be updated soon. Tell me what you think in a review!
