Everlong
Just something that came to me while I was playing Guitar Hero. Enjoy, review, and check out my other stories. Anything in italics (after this of course) does not belong to me and was either borrowed from Grey's Anatomy or Everlong by the Foo Fighters. Needless to say, I own neither.
Meredith stood in the middle of hundreds of candles looking out over Seattle. It had been a stupid decision. She never did the cheesy thing but she knew that Derek loved cheese. He had changed her from the girl in the bar to the woman who knew who she wanted. No matter how many times they thought it wouldn't work, they kept coming back to each other. It was destiny.
Finally she saw the headlights to his car. She saw him walk towards her with his McDreamy smile and his McDreamy hair. "Where have you been? I've been waiting and waiting for you." He just stood there smiling with a bottle of Champagne half behind his back listening to where their children would play and where the kitchen and the living room would be.
"Where's our bedroom?" he asked.
Mer started to respond "I'm still mad at you…" but before she could finish her ramblings he kissed her. A deep, perfect kiss to start the next part of their deep, perfect lives together. He left her with the promise of more, once he could break up with Rose. He didn't want this part of the Derek and Meredith saga to start with lies and deception too. "Stay here. Wait for me."

It took all of an hour to drive to the hospital, find Rose and break it off. "Rose, I'm sorry it couldn't work out but it's not fair to anyone involved for this to be going on." Derek was sincere. He hated to hurt anyone.
"I wish I could say that I haven't been expecting this, but I'm not surprised. I'm the rebound girl. You may as well go. There's nothing that I am willing to say or even can say to keep you here, especially when I know you don't want to be here. We had a longer run than anyone would have guessed."
"I'm glad we can be adult about this. Goodbye Rose."
"Goodbye Derek." He was free to be with the woman he loved as he walked out of the hospital and into his car to get back to Mer.

When he got back to the candles only a few had gone out but Meredith was still waiting for him but now with the Champagne opened, two glasses and a blanket from the trailer. He listened to the words that came out of her mouth.
"I've waited here for you, ever long. Tonight I'm throwing myself into a real relationship with you. No secret wives. No ferry crashes. Just you and me, whole and healed."
Derek took one of the glasses and sat down next to her. "So which room is this?"
"This would probably be the guest bedroom."
"Will we be having guests often?" he teased gazing into her eyes lit only by the fluttering candles and the moon.
"Not tonight. How you wanted it to be. I'm over my head. I just know I want you." They kissed again and Derek laid her on her back, kissing her lips and neck as he did so. Eventually the kisses led to something more.
After the ecstasy, Meredith whispered in Derek's ear. "If everything could ever feel this real forever. If anything could ever feel this real again."
He smiled and told her "I may not have the ring or the house yet, but we are forever. Meredith Grey, I love you more than life itself. I'd do anything for you."
"I just need one thing. Promise not to stop when I say when, because you know me. I may say when a million times but I haven't meant it once." They laid there holding each other until the last candle went out, enjoying the first moment of what would be the best part of their lives together.
