Battlefield
"She is mine"
A heated beam struck past her, hitting her assaultant.
His voice was straddling the line between the protectiveness of a lover and the obsession of a predator willing to solely feed on his prey.
The man seemed to get the point thoroughly, and he moved past her to another target.
'Not like he'd kill one of his own'
And the dance began.
There was no safe place on a battlefield.
And now their entire world was one.
But Anna had to find a relatively safe haven to ensure Kristoff wouldn't be targeted and she either.
He wasn't a mutant after all.
She was an empath, not the strongest mutant in the world -unlike her ice weilding sister- and her pyromaniac ... Whatever.
Sure, her empathy came in handy in the past , but not in this time.
Strange enough, they have always found their way to each other,
First during their academic years in Professor X's school,
And now in a battlefield of a civil war started by Magneto.
and the blows keep passing in between.
Slings of fire and spikes of ice.
Betrayal.
She felt betrayed by him when she started to realise how his ideologies were shifting.
He was going against everthing she cherished and believed in and unfortunately, there was no middle ground where they could compromise and meet, not after all those battles he was determined to fight against them, not after all they had done.
It would have been easier though if she could hate him, and here was the catch.
Despite everything that brew between them, she couldn't bring herself to hate him, even when he was so raptly intended on doing so.
And the worst, she feels like a hypocrite for not being able to let him go.
She hates herself for loving him still.
Loss.
Standing one on one in the fight like this doesn't make losing her any easier.
Losing their mutual trust, losing their connection, the doubt and weariness that surrounds her still doesn't put his mind at peace for losing her.
The one solace maybe, is that he lost her for their cause, to be accepted and embraced for their superior powers, not hunted, alienated and feared.
Not outcast and hidden by their families as they both were.
However he knew so well that her methodology, professor X's methodology wouldn't lead them anywhere.
As Magneto and his brothers' before put it "the world listens only to the strong"
And he was Strong. They were strong.
And if they don't want to listen, if they don't want to accept them, they will force them to.
After all, were they ever to reach an end, it would be one of the apparent options:
Her heart would be completely burnt out,
Or his would be utterly frozen.
Only Anna can feel that their steady steps down this path would lead to both.
