Just a short sappy piece I felt inspired to write about how Jen and Nick may have got together.

It'll Feel Strange without you there.

"Yes. But it'll be strange without you there" Jen smiled that smile at him as he looked up at her thoroughly elated though with slight surprise.

As he drove her home he asked her if she wanted to get something to eat. He'd wanted to take her out to dinner. It wasn't as though they hadn't eaten out together before but this time was different. She was tired though and asked if he minded having takeaway instead. In truth he was really tired as well and the added intimacy of eating together at her place was enticing so he dropped her off at her house then went to get the food. When he got back Jen had set the table nicely and opened a bottle of wine. She smiled at him and held out a glass.

Jen sat on the couch next to Nick with her feet tucked up under her. As they talked she sank further into the couch towards Nick until finally, utterly exhausted by a combination of the meds and the previous weeks undercover assignment, she fell asleep resting her head against his shoulder. He looked down at her with a depth of affection he hadn't yet been able to express and put his arm around her. She snuggled into him in her sleep and he rested his head against hers. He sat there holding her as she slept and thinking things through. He was in love with her he knew that now. He'd been burying his growing feelings for her ever since he'd met up with her again but the past few days sleeping next to her again each night, their lives constantly on the line, he couldn't and didn't want to deny how he felt anymore. What's more he knew she had feelings for him too. It wouldn't be easy though. They worked together and it wasn't really the done thing to have a relationship with one of your colleagues but the bond they shared having lived together years previously as husband and wife all those months under cover, what he felt for her, it wasn't just a simple attraction easily dismissed. He stroked her face gently and brushed some of her blonde hair out of her eyes. Her lips turned up at the corners in her sleep and she looked peaceful for the first time in the last week. Sleep didn't always come easily to Jen. He knew and he understood why.

He stared at the bandage on her arm and shuddered as he remembered the desperate fear he'd felt only the previous afternoon as she'd lain limp and blood soaked in his arms after being shot. Then the following anger that McAllister really had set them up and Jen had nearly been killed as a result. He couldn't help it anymore he kissed her temple gently, trying not to wake her but she stirred and opened her eyes. She pulled back with a slightly confused expression on her face and looked at him, reddening, embarrassed, "Oh Nick I'm sorry. I didn't mean to fall asleep. The past few days must have hit me harder than I thought." He shook his head gently and caressed her face in the tender way that made her heart turn over. They looked at each other for a few seconds before they closed the distance and finally kissed each other with all the pent up tenderness and passion they'd been feeling for longer than either of them really wanted to admit.
