My Heartbeat

"Maka, am I alone in your heart?" Soul asked the question as he swirled his alcoholic beverage once before downing it. He sat, perched on Shibusen's roof. Turmoil overtaking his heart and soul, he sighed to himself before throwing the now empty glass away from himself; hearing it shatter as it met the ground below. He sighed and ran a hand through his hair, frowning as the fresh memory of Kid and Maka kissing ran through his head. That was the reason he was up here, distancing himself from them both.

"Tch, what a stupid question." He gazed out at Death City, his usual cool demeanor gone, heartache filling him as he thought of his technician. Maybe he was a fool, thinking that because he was her weapon..maybe, just maybe there was something more to that bond. Who was he kidding, clearly she didn't see him as more than a friend; why else would she be sucking face with Kid.

"Yaho--oooooooooops" None other than Black Star was wobbling his way over to Soul, though he'd dropped his beverage off the roof; hitting some poor sucker below. "BE GRATEFUL! YOU'VE BEEN BAPTIZED BY GOD'S SALIVA AND DRINK!" Giggling to himself, he balances himself over to Soul, and plops down beside his best friend. His sloppy grin turning into a rather serious face, he gazes down at Death City with his friend.

"Why aren't ya down there playin' the white knight?" Black Star asked, knowing exactly what was torturing his friend.

"She's with Kid....I don't have a chance." Clenches his jaw, the whole situation was tearing at his heart; he didn't know it could hurt like this. "I'm not her 'white knight'. I'm not the one she wants." Anger bubbled in his stomach as he said it aloud, he'd been there for Maka. All those times she had needed someone to hold her and brush her tears away; it had been him. Not Kid, no...it had been her partner Soul.

Black Star, in his tipsy stupor stood and swayed slightly as he stretched his arms above his head.

"Ya know, people always call me stupid. Even though I'm not!" He stood next to Soul, hands in his pockets as he turned his gaze again to Death City.

"What I don't get, is how you can't see somethin' that's right in front of your face man. It's so obvious she's got the hots for you." Black Star glances at Soul. "You are pretty hot, er...second to me of course!"

Startled by the comment Soul's head snaps upward to look at the tipsy boy.

"Dude, not cool."

Star waved his hand in a 'shushing' motion.

"You haven't seen how she looks at you man! And don't even get her talking about you! She never shuts up!"

Soul rolled his eyes, tagging the liquor with the blame for his friends words. He scowled and turned back to Death City.

"You're wasted man."

He didn't want to talk about it, didn't want to even think about the reason why he currently wished to be heartless and souless. He was a weapon, he was good at taking pain. Hell, he gladly took a hit for Maka. The reason he did, wasn't only because "the weapon protects the meister". He had done it without thought, it had been an instinct to protect the girl he'd grown attached to. Only after that did he figure out he loved her.

Soul was shaken out of his thoughts, again by his blue haired friend.

"DUDE! She only accepted to be Kid's date because you hadn't asked her! GET YOUR ASS DOWN THERE AND TELL HER YOU LOVE HER--woah!" Black Star, who had started to rant with over exaggerated gestures had almost tipped over the side of the roof. He turned to Soul and gestured to the edge of the roof.

"It ends!" He whispered to the white haired boy, petrified amazement in his voice.

AN: So this has been sitting on my computer for awhile. I promise I'll finish it, but most likely after I post another chapter of 'Fallen Star'. I hope my version of a drunk Black Star amuses you all, as always let me know what you all think of it. This might just be a two shot, FOREWARNING~!
