Bellatrix Black licked her lips nervously.

IBy my life and honor, by my pride and family, I do solemnly swear. . ./I

In a few minutes this would be over. In a few minutes Rodolphus would be satisfied, and she would take his ring.

I. . .to serve the Dark Lord and none other. . ./I

In a few minutes she would be ready to become Bellatrix Lestrange and leave the name of Black behind. In a few minutes she could sever her ties with her fool sister Andromeda, and her filthy Gryffindor cousin.

I. . .loyally, never wavering in his service, following his words as my testament and his wishes as my own. . ./I

In a few minutes she would be on her way to greatness, to power. In a few minutes, she could begin her task to overtake her sister's husband, take his place at the Dark Lord's side and never have to fear persecution again.

I. . .without hesitation. I do swear to purge the world of Muggles and their Mudblood children, of Squibs, of fools and of those who stand in our way. . ./I

In a few minutes, Bellatrix would prove herself. In a few minutes she would endure pain beyond pain, pain beyond knowledge, and she would remain strong. In a few minutes, when the Dark Lord's wand touched her arm, she would be whole and anything she wanted would already be hers. Everything included Rodolphus.

I. . .I do swear to obey, to give up my will and my own right in exchange for power and glory that is yet to come. I do swear that my life belongs to the Dark Lord, to keep or throw away, to do with as he wishes, and accept this as the right. I do acknowledge that Lord Voldemort is my only and everlasting master. . ./I

Instinctively, Bellatrix tore her eyes from the ground and shot a fleeting, frightened look at Rodolphus. He stood not far away next to his brother, both of them stony-faced and expressionless, but he saw her movement and encouragement glinted in his eyes. Strengthened, she said the last words with conviction.

I. . .from this day forth, even unto the day of my death. He is a power above any gods or demons to me, and I am his. . ./I

She did not hesitate.

I. . .forever./I
