"Vote Kurt Hummel for prom king!" Rachel said enthusiatiscally as she passed by a group of girls in the hallway who just stared at her strangely. She was bouncing towards the next gathering of students when she was blocked by a large body in front of her.

"What exactly are you doing, dwarf?" David Karofsky growled at her. "Seeing as Kurt just returned to McKinley, I thought this would be the perfect 'welcome-back' surprise sans the absence of posters and other such campaigning methods. Now if you'll excuse me, David, I have work to do." Rachel looked curiously at Karofsky as he appeared deep in thought.

"I'll help you." "What?" Rachel asked in disbelief, furrowing her brows. He sighed before talking in a low voice, "I said I'll help you, midget, provided it's to make him win prom queen." "Why?" She asked, still utterly confused. "Look, I'm just trying to prove I'm not the same guy anymore, so stop questioning me." "O-Okay, but isn't him winning prom queen kind of insulting?" "Take it or leave it." He growled, annoyed. Rachel nodded speechless, she couldn't believe Karofsky had just offered to help Kurt but she hadn't missed the way his eyes kept scanning the hallways for Santana, she presumed. She had, however, not seen Quinn seething at her from across the hall.

"Our prom king and queen are... David Karofsky and Kurt Hummel!" Kurt stood with his mouth hanging open in shock until he felt Rachel nudge him in the side, winking at him and motioning him towards the stage where Karofsky was smirking at him. There was something in his eyes...desire? Kurt shuddered at the thought but made his way there.

Quinn couldn't believe her ears. She. Lost. That never happened to a Fabray. She rushed to the toilet as her vision became clouded with tears. She stood at the sinks and sobbed, slamming her fist onto the unfortunate basin before her. This was all Rachel Berry's fault.

Rachel, noticing the distraught look on Quinn's face, followed her. She hadn't been on particularly good terms with the blonde but she thought that maybe she could at least talk to her. As she entered the toilet, she saw Quinn's back facing her, her shoulders shaking as she cried and her hands curled into balls. "Quinn?" She asked unsure of what the other girl's reaction would be. "You did this!" Quinn yelled as she wheeled around and raised her hand, bringing it down onto Rachel's cheek before either girl knew what was happening.

The echo resounded through the toilet. Both girls were silent. Rachel finally registered the sting in her cheek and brought a hand up to it, finding that her hand became damp. She realized she was crying. Strong arms suddenly wrapped themselves around her and she sobbed into the person's shoulder. "Back off, Fabray!" A high voice rang out. Rachel looked as a figure made its way out hurriedly before lifting her head. "Thank you, Kurt." She said, her voice cracking.

He brought her head back to his chest and stroked her soft brown hair. "No one touches my favourite diva, besides, I should be the one thanking you, honey. As insane as it was, I heard Mercedes say it was your idea to make me prom queen. You do know girls usually win, right?" "I...I know but I thought it was better than nothing." She sniffed. Kurt chuckled and cupped her cheeks, rubbing his thumb across the bright red one. "I appreciate it. I really do, but next time, don't put your life on the line like that, okay?" "Drama queen." Rachel mumbled as she wiped her tears with the back of her hand. "Takes one to know one." They both laughed as Kurt removed the petite brunette's hand and used a tissue to clean her face while she playfully slapped his arm.

A/N Yet another Hummelberry friendship one-shot. My take on what could happen in 2x20 although I would have personally slapped Quinn back no matter how much I like Faberry.
