Remus Lupin

I. It wasn't until he was 19 that Remus understood why he had been placed in Gryffindor. Up until a rainy night after he'd graduated, he had never done anything particularly heroic, never felt brave. Yet on that night, Remus would've sworn that Godric Gyrffindor had possessed him. He felt courage running through his veins. Enough courage to admit that he'd been lying to himself for years; enough courage to admit that he was deeply and completely in love with his best friend; enough courage to push Sirius against a wall and kiss him. He knew he was a true Gryffindor because despite the fact that he wanted to run away and cry, he was able to look Sirius in the eye after the two pulled apart; he was able to kiss him again, more tenderly, and whisper a nervous "I love you" that was powerful enough to start a lifetime love affair.

II. Despite his deep hatred towards Peter, he'd always feel indebted to him. Peter, along with James and Sirius, had helped Remus get over the bitterness he had felt for so long over being a werewolf. They helped him learn what it meant to be someone's friend. They gave meaning to his life. And although outwardly Remus would curse Peter for allowing his friends to die, inwardly he'd always feel thankful for what his friend did for him during their youth.

III. When Tonks smiled at him, Remus was reminded of her older cousin. A part of him knew that was why he agreed to be with her; she reminded him of Sirius. Yet at the same time, she was so entirely different from the man he loved, with her pink hair, bright eyes, and soft curves, that Remus was almost inspired to stop living in the past. Almost.
