~Memory~

"Let me put this around you." a white-haired boy beamed an endearing smile to his lover, putting the violin shaped necklace around his lover's neck as he gave a short but sweet peck to the brunette's neck. The younger boy's face was pale and a dark shadow enlightened the lower part of his eyes. His lips were slightly trembling not from the cold breeze, but from holding back the tears to make sure he wouldn't break down in front of his beloved.

"Thank you Zero..." the tall man took a glimpse of the silver necklace before he captured his lover's thin waist. So tiny, so fragile, and it made him even more afraid to tighten his grip, worried even with such a small gesture could hurt him. But what was the point anymore? He was already hurting him by promising to stay by his side until the end.

He knew...

He always knew his presence was hurting Zero, especially at a time like this. It'd bring nothing but pain to Zero when the last person he was going to see on earth was him, the last sight of his on earth was the face of his broken lover, unable to accept the truth that one day, Zero wouldn't be there anymore.

It would make Zero blame himself, until the very end. But he was weak for refusing to see the truth - weak for still hoping, Kaname admitted that. He still had hope despite when the doctor informed him Zero had only a few hours left to live.

Zero gave a weak giggle at Kaname's failed attempt to cheer him up and slowly lying on the white hospital's bed with a sigh. "Kaname?" he blinked at his lover and lifted his cold hand to caress Kaname's cheek, realizing the older man was shedding tears. It wasn't that kind of tears where you had to say goodbye to someone. No, Zero knew better, Kaname was crying because he couldn't let him go.

"Kaname." Zero smiled and forced himself to sit in front of Kaname, pulling the other man into a tight embrace, never letting go. "Kaname, forget about me." he whispered, like a wind, it was swept away and hidden behind the wide sky. "What?" Kaname drew away from Zero and put his hand on the silver-haired's shoulder, clenching it beneath his touch. "How could you...say something like that?"

Zero smiled again. The same sweet smile Kaname learned to love.

"True, but I'd rather to be forgotten than to be a part of memories that could only bring pains."

Kaname chuckled, tears still rolling down from his eyes. After that, the room filled nothing but silence and the chirping birds from the window next to Zero's bed. With their fingers intertwined together, Kaname was lying next to Zero while listening to Zero's low breathing, relishing not the time they had left to be together but on the first day they had met each other.

Zero didn't say anything when he confessed to him years ago, he stared at him, stared at him like there was no one else but him in this world. And Kaname couldn't help but to fall deeply in love with that serene gaze.

Slowly but surely, Kaname closed his eyes and kissed Zero's forehead when he heard nothing more but his own breath in the white room.

...Zero was gone...With his last wish asking to be forgotten.

A wish that Kaname knew he couldn't make it came true.

"I love you..."
