Enemy

Itachi stood over the bloated corpse of the man he had called his friend.

'In the end, he was merely a stepping stone.'

And as he stood over the water's edge and watched the blood seep into the water, tinting it a vile red, he recalled the words told to him when he first entered the ANBU forces.

"You will follow orders without hesitation. You will kill without a second thought. You will not dwell on pity for the enemy. Instead, you will dwell on the rush of addrenaline when you dangled between life and death. You will dwell on the prospect of another kill, and another day."

Itachi never felt it though, the addrenaline rush.

No, he felt no excitement at the prospect of killing, as many thought.

Instead, he felt a rush of apathy.

Even when he left Shisui's corpse in the standing water he felt indifferent.

For Uchiha Itachi, emotion did not exist.

There was merely him and his enemy.

And tonight, Shisui had become an enemy.
