Based off my headcanon: while sasuke is in the hospital recovering from his injuries after his fight with naruto, sakura peels an apple for him like what she used to do as a genin and tries to feed it to him. thinking he would reject her like last time, sasuke takes a bite out of the apple slice she is holding parallel to his mouth
They sit in silence in his hospital room as she gingerly peels the apple making sure to take off all the skin. Emerald eyes watch as red slowly fades to yellow as the skin starts to form a pile on the plate on her lap. Onyx eyes stare where his left arm was supposed to be, still trying to get used to the fact that he lost an arm. Most importantly staring at the empty place on his bed where his left arm, not too many years ago, knocked away a plate of apples from her hands.
He closes his eyes as he recalls that day back when they were genins, back when he was filled with nothing but hatred and revenge. He recalls the same type of apple being carefully peeled in her small hands making sure not to take off too much flesh with the skin, but now she does it with ease. His mind begins to wonder if she peeled and feed apples to anyone else, to another guy. He subconsciously grips the blanket under his right hand, squeezing it, feeling an unfamiliar emotion surging through him: jealously and for a girl too. But she was no ordinary girl. The timid girl in his memories is nothing like the girl sitting beside him. This girl can move and make mountains with a single swing of her arm, she can heal without so much of an effort, and she wanted to do what everyone thought was impossible: save him.
Slowly opening his eyes, he tilts his head to the side as she begins to cut into the apple. With eyes filled with remorse he begins to wonder if his apology was enough. He acknowledges that he's done a lot to her, too much, from leaving her alone on that cold bench that night to trying to kill her, twice. Sighing to himself he drops his glance to her feet and begins to wonder if he even deserves her love. He even tried to kill Naruto and her master, Tsunade, so what reason does he have to love her?
"Sasuke?"
The sound of her voice breaks Sasuke out of his thoughts. He focuses on her and notices that she's finished cutting the apple with a fork stabbed through one of the slices. He ponders to himself if she is going to feed him or if she'll give him the apples to eat while she keeps him company. To his surprise, she picks up the fork and slowly pushes it towards his mouth. He doesn't miss how she hesitates picking it off of the plate and knows that that is due to the past.
The apple is parallel to his mouth, but he does not take his eyes of her. He studies her emerald eyes looking for a reason. His mind takes him back to what Kakashi said after he placed her under a genjutsu: "The only time you need a reason is to hate someone!"
Closing his eyes, he smirks to himself before opening his mouth to consume the apple. He slowly pulls away from the fork pulling the apple slice with him and as the fork leaves his mouth curious eyes open to watch what kind of expression she would have. A faint blush graces her cheeks and she looks at him stunned, probably surprised that he would take the apple. Quite frankly, he himself is shocked that he did so, and as he begins to chew the apple he knows that he doesn't need a reason only if he could have her by his side.
