A studious reincarnation attended class,
Before her fated return to the past.
The girl filled her backpack with supplies,
Then jumped down the well as she told herself lies.
"The test is a whole month away.
Inuyasha will pout if I study today.
Tomorrow I'll study for the mock exam
I'll do it then, so I don't have to cram."
With that, she skipped off to her friends
Not suspecting how her story would end.
She told her friends of adventures at home,
Their thoughts towards the jewel shards began to roam.
The next day at dawn they continued their quest.
They only stopped at dusk to rest.
They traveled the land in search of their quarry,
The shards of a jewel of an ancient story.
It began with a bandit who lusted after a shrine maiden,
Who with the responsibility had been laden.
She loved a hanyou, though bound by fate,
Never to love demons, only to hate.
With the bandit some demons made a deal,
The jewel and power was his if his soul they could steal.
He agreed without hesitation,
Which would later prove to be his damnation.
The bandit pulled a cruel deception,
It fooled them both without exception.
The hanyou was bound by her to a tree,
Fifty years later her reincarnation set him free.
The jewel by Kagome's hand shattered.
Recovering the jewel shards was all that mattered.
Should a single shard into the wrong hands fall,
It would bring disaster to them all.
Their group grew as time went on,
Gathering together to fight Naraku's pawns.
It was one day until her return to school,
And the reincarnation began to loose her cool.
"It's one day 'til the test and I haven't studied!
My understanding of this subject is muddied!
Why did I let my studying wait?
Now I'll have to stay up late!"
She sat at her desk in her room,
And tried to ignore her feeling of doom.
She studied late into the night,
And woke the next day with a fright.
Thanks to her hanyou friend she made it in time,
She sat in her desk before the last chime.
She took the test half asleep,
Wishing she could be counting sheep.
She finished the test with a moment to spare,
When she was about to leave, her teacher stopped her with a stare.
"Miss Higurashi, you looked confused on the test.
Are you sure you have gotten enough rest?"
"Sure!" she lied with a grin,
Thinking inwardly, 'I just can't win.
I should have studied from the first.
Luckily it didn't turn out worse.'
The next day, her mom got a call,
'Miss Higurashi has failed it all.
Tell me when she can do a retake,
Let's hope she doesn't make the same mistake.'
That is the end of my story,
Procrastinators never get glory.
