It was a frigid January day. The sky was cloudy and dreary as per usual. Edward Cullen was in Biology class, lounging in his chair, thoroughly bored. Passing time, he thought. Just passing time. The day will be over soon enough. He wished he could sleep. It would make time fly much faster. Alas, that was not to be. It was one of the perks of being a vampire, he supposed, although what these perks were he certainly didn't know.

He'd been thinking about her all day, not helped by the constant clamoring about her in everyone else's mind. When Angela Weber escorted the new girl through the door, her name surfaced into everyone's minds, and thus, into his. He tried to listen to her thoughts, but he could hear nothing. It very much unnerved him, and also made him rather irritated. No one had ever been able to avoid his mindreading ability.

She walked past him to get to the teacher's desk, and he realized that the seat next to his was the only one available. He cleared the side that was to be hers, shoving his books into a pile. He doubted she would feel comfortable there.

She was in for a long semester. He had no obligation to make her welcome. But, perhaps, by sitting beside her, he'd be able to discover some of her secrets. He doubted he'd hear anything interesting to listen to, however. He'd heard it all. One hadn't been a vampire for nearly ninety years and not heard all there was to hear in a human mind. There was no such thing as individuality and originality. He would know.

Bella Swan walked into the flow of the heated air that blew toward him from the vent. Her scent struck him with a sudden force, so strongly that he tensed and stopped breathing. It was…the most glorious scent in the entire world. He hadn't imagined such a scent could exist. If he'd known it did, he would have gone searching for it long ago. He would have combed the planet for her. He could imagine the taste… the taste…of sweetness on his tongue…the moist, rich texture of it in his mouth.

She smelled so wonderful, like wine, like candy, like…like…

At that very moment, he had to do everything within his power not to jump up from his seat, grab her, and drain her dry. The monster within him that he had tried to suppress for so long was suddenly very interested in attaining Bella Swan. Let her come closer…Just let her come closer.

He was a vampire, and she had the sweetest blood he'd ever smelled. In fact, it was the sweetest scent he'd smelled since… Has it really been decades? A tiny, infinitesimal part of his mind wondered.

His throat burned. God, but it had been so long since he'd tasted it. So very long. And the human smelled so wonderful.

Edward would absolutely kill to taste again the deliciousness that is blueberry pie.

It's been a while. This is very much a writing exercise, so concrit appreciated.

I took some quotes from Midnight Sun and revised them a bit for my own purposes. If anyone's interested, they're from pages 9 and 10.
