As The Snow Falls
If there is one thing Miki hates, it's winter. Not because of the cold weather or storms like most others who would share her hate of the season, though they do play a part in it. Miki hates winter because when she was little she slipped on ice and broke her arm; she hates it because she cannot spend hours outside drawing like she does during the summer without getting cold or the sun setting before she is finished; she hates it most of all because winter was when Yoru, the man she had grown to love, left with his brother in order to search for their father. Even so Miki never broke her routine of going to the park to sit and sketch.
It was snowing that day; Miki's sketchbook lay in her bag beside her, forgotten for the moment. She closed her coat around her tighter, trying to kept the cold out more effectively, just sitting there quietly watching the snow cover the park she knew so well. She couldn't help thinking of Yoru, wondering where he was now or if he had found who he was looking for. Miki was so wrapped up in her thoughts she didn't hear the crunch of snow that should have alerted her to the approach of another person. It wasn't until a voice so familiar even though she hadn't heard it in years whisper, "I'm back," as strong arms circled around her.
They stayed like that for a long time, Miki crying as she hugged him in return, and neither minded the tears they shared. It grew colder with the setting sun, snow still drifting lazily on and around them, neither minding that, either. And Miki thought that maybe winter wasn't so bad after all.
AN: Short and sweet (at least I hope), maybe someday I'll work up the courage to write something more than a short story… As always, if anyone has any advice for me to improve, or if there are any mistakes in spelling or character-wise, please let me know?
