AN: I wrote this during a unit on Greek Mythology. I had to do a report on Aphrodite, and during it, I wrote this poem. Not my best, but it's worthy of being up here. Enjoy! Maggie.
SKIN DEEP
Succulent, smooth
Yet cold to the touch,
Each little meaning
Is never enough.
Beauty itself is only skin deep,
So watch out you lovers,
For secrets you keep.
You demand proof,
The Greeks Aphrodite,
The goddess of beauty and love.
With eyes and skin and hair so nice,
They had to have come from above.
Her visible beauty,
Her visible soul,
Her 'wonderful' heart on her sleeve,
May not be her actual heart at all,
It's just what she has you believe.
She may simply seem like,
A figure of joy,
Filled with beautiful ways,
But inside is a jealous,
Unfaithful soul,
Living cold, secretive days.
So is she the goddess of love after all?
I'll let you figure it out.
But it's not about beauty,
It's not about looks,
It's what's inside that counts.
Beauty itself comes at a price,
This trait only deep as the skin.
It's the beauty inside
That shows who you are,
The wonderful beauty within.
