A friendship can weather most things and thrive in thin soil; but it needs a little mulch of letters and phone calls and small, silly presents every so often - just to save it from drying out completely.

They were finally going to follow their dreams, finally going on their own Pokémon adventure.
Separately.
Touko knew they wouldn't be traveling together for the most part, maybe a battle and a greeting here or there, but she never thought they would be out of contact for three weeks. Surely it wasn't hard to get in contact using the Xtransciever; she herself could easily do it. Yet what if they didn't even want to talk to her? Bianca and Cheren could be avoiding her. Touko racked her mind thinking of anything she had done to her dear friends that could've upset them.
Well, I mean I beat them in our Pokémon battles, but I'm positive they wouldn't hold a grudge about that. Touko, finding no reason as to why her childhood friends would be avoiding her, reached into her bag and pulled out her Xtransciever. She would get a hold to Bianca first, then Cheren.
She tried. No answer.
She immediately called Cheren, and to her surprise, got a hold of him.
"Touko?" Cheren asked. Touko couldn't stop a grin from appearing on her face. He sounds just as posh as ever. "Um, hello Touko? Would you please answer me?"
"Oh, sorry Cheren! I'm just… shocked, is all. How have you been? Where are you?" Touko bombed him with questions.
She didn't even pay attention as Cheren rambled on about how he was doing, when he was and about how strong his Pokémon were becoming. He wasn't avoiding her, for if he was he would've most likely hung up on her now. It was something she had to come to terms with, she supposed. Even best friends needed a little space once in a while.

"Here Touko, put it on!"
It was a piece of string. Bianca just gave her a piece of string. Well it's the thought that counts. Three colours of strings were twined together. Blue, green and pink. It also looked incredibly tacky.
"Bianca, why are you giving me string?" Touko couldn't help but wonder.
"Well silly, I thought it was obvious. You're going to tie it around your wrist, as a symbol of friendship between you, Cheren and me!" Bianca giggled, knotting the string around Touko's wrist. "I already gave Cheren his, although he was reluctant to put it on. You see, the strings are the same colour as our favourites. There's blue for Cheren, pink for you and green for me!"
"Oh, wow Bianca. That's really sweet." Touko was bursting with happiness.
"And you know what, Touko? We're always going to be as tight as these strings are, no matter what." Bianca smiled.
"Yup, no matter what." Touko smiled back.

Urg, the ending sucked. But I don't care because I am immensely proud of this, it being my first fanfiction. Grammar is my weak point, so I'm sorry if there are any mistakes. So any criticism is welcome, I would love to hear, well read, it!
