I DO NOT OWN FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST!

There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you

Three blonde children were standing outside the Rockbell house in the rain. They waited for a girl with raven hair and blue eyes to walk up. When she saw the other kids' sad faces, she ran inside. She knew exactly where to go as she bolted through the house.

"Mommy!" She yelled as she saw her mother, father, and family friend, Pinako, standing next to a bed. In the bed was another little girl. She had shorter black hair and the same icy blue eyes as the older girl.

"Hikari, we're going to take Sienna into town. The doctor needs to look at her," her father said.

"Will she be ok?" the girl asked. Her mother and father exchanged glances before nodding. Any adult would have known that this meant.

"We're not exactly sure..." but the little girl took it to heart. She watched her family walk out the door. She had this gut feeling that told her to go with but she stayed behind.

"Come, Hikari. I'll make you some soup. You must be freezing," Pinako said.

"What do you mean they're not coming back?" the little girl asked with tears in her wide eyes.

"Granny said that their car ran into another one. They slipped 'cause of the rain. They had no chance of surviving but apparently Sienna made it. She's in the hospital and will be back tomorrow," Winry said. Hikari fell to the floor, eyes overflowing with tears. She let out a shriek that made the three blonde children's skin crawl. Winry wrapped her in a hug. Hikari's tears flowed as fast as the pounding rain.

"I can get them back...It says I can! We'll both be happy again...if I just draw...this circle then place my hands..." the girl whipped away tears as the thunder outside roared. She drew a circle then placed her hands on it.

"I'll bring you back Mommy and Daddy!" she said as she noticed a small figure walking down the stairs.

"Kari? Why are you up so late? I'm tired-" "Sienna! I'm bringing Mommy and Daddy back!" Hikari yelled at her sister as a blue light ran around the circle and both girls were covered in white light. Hikari was knocked unconscious. When she woke up she noticed Sienna was gone.

"Hi...ka...ri..." something muttered. Young Hikari's eyes widened as she saw an amalgamation of something...unholy...on the floor. It had limbs poking out from random places as it flailed. Hikari screeched as she drew another circle on the ground then placed her hands on it. The ground created icy spikes that stabbed the beast. Hikari watched it fall limp. She held herself in her arms as her mind was racing.

'What have I done?!' she thought to herself, body trembling and tears flowing.

All the color had faded from her body. She noticed her vision was mangled. She felt where her eye was and a sharp pain ran through her body...Her left eye was missing...She screamed once more. She wanted her mom and dad...her sister...She wanted her family!

"I'm sorry Mommy...Daddy...Sienna...I thought I could bring you back..." Hikari cried as she crawled towards them, covering the disfigured creature in her arms. She knew what she had to do...

She grabbed her lantern then pulled herself to the living room. She spotted a family photo with her working eye then picked it up and smashed it onto the ground, breaking the glass. Tearfully, she picked up the picture inside as she put it in her pocket before grabbing a lamp as she walked out of the house. She took one last look at the place she once knew as home as she threw the oil lantern onto the wooden floor with as much force that she could muster. She looked away from the house as it went up in flames. She turned back for only a second, to look at what she had done before she turned to run away from the house. Suddenly, shadows that resembled hands pulled her back. They dragged her into the burning building as voices filled her head.

"Murderer!"

"What was the point?"

"You're only killing us again!"

"Suffer with us!"

"What's wrong with you?"

Ten Years Later...

"Central City! Central City!" a now eighteen-year-old Hikari jumped from her seat in the train as she heard someone shout for her stop.

"It was a dream..." She sighed as she got up and left the train, stopping briefly outside so she could stretch. Hikari had sleek black hair and wore a black shirt that cut off at her diaphragm and had the shoulders cut out. She also wore a grey tank top underneath, black leggings that cut off a little bit above her knees, and light grey knee-high boots. She was thin and had blue eyes, one of which was obscured by her hair falling over that side of her face. She had a black glove on her right hand and a light brown belt with a grey jacket hung loosely around her waist.

"Let's see what Mustang wants now..." She mumbled as she began walking into the city. She made her way to Colonel Roy Mustang's office. When she walked in she noticed how he seemed to be deep in thought.

"Hey," she said as she closed the door behind her. She noticed how he took a deep breath as he chose what he was going to say next very carefully. His hands covered his frown.

"Colonel, they're here," Second Lieutenant Maria Ross said as she poked her head through the door.

"Mustang?" Hikari had a worried look.

"I can't protect you forever...Send them in," Roy Mustang said as he finally opened his eyes and met them with Hikari's icy blue eyes. Ross gave Hikari a sympathetic look.

"Sorry Adanet," she said as she left.

"Yo, Colonel! What's up?" Edward Elric said as he walked in with a somewhat cheery attitude. Mustang watched Hikari's eyes widen as she began to shake with anger and fear. The Elric brothers noticed the shaking, raven-haired girl in front of the Colonel's desk.

"Who's this?" Ed asked. Mustang looked at Hikari as she mouthed a silent threat.

'I'm gonna kill you...'

"Al...Fullmetal..." he said. Ed walked closer to his desk then looked over. He managed to get a glimpse of her face. That was all he needed. His eyes widened as he saw Hikari Adanet; a childhood friend of both boys...She was also supposed to be dead. He stumbled backward, bumping into Al.

"What's wrong brother-" you could hear the confusion in his voice as he noticed the face of the girl in front of them.

"I guess I don't need to introduce you," Mustang said.

"What?!" Ed was completely shocked. He didn't know how she could be alive.

"Hikari...We thought you burned in the house with..." Al said, unable to finish his sentence. Hikari winced at the mention of her family.

"If you're here then...is she here too?" he asked as he looked around.

"..." Hikari said nothing. She was angry.

"Can you explain all this?" Ed asked. Hikari silently wished she hadn't come to work that day.

"Start talking...Frankly, I'd like to hear it all the way through, too," Mustang said with a demanding tone. His eyes narrowed as he looked at Hikari's who did the same thing. It was like his fiery gaze versus her icy stare.

"What happened that night?" Al asked. Hikari took a deep breath.

"Damn you," she said. The room went quiet.

"Hik-" "Stop," Hikari said with a deadly tone. Communications ceased.

"I'm just going to get to the point," Mustang said, changing the subject.

"You've been teamed up upon the Fuhrer's orders. Because Scar seems to be targeting State Alchemist's now, it doesn't seem right to have the two youngest alchemists to be working alone," he said. Hikari had heard of Scar before. He was a murderer...No more than her, though. Ed's eyes widened.

"We don't know for how long but whatever you do will be with each other," Mustang continued. Hikari sighed through her nostrils. She didn't like this. She was told she wouldn't have to talk to the Elric's. She thought she could just live the rest of her life in peace.

"If you'll excuse me, I have some work to do," Mustang excused them from his office. They walked out of the office and Hikari sighed. She turned her back to the Elric brothers and began walking away.

"Where are we going?" Ed asked. Hikari spun around, glaring down the pipsqueak.

"You mean where am I going?" she said as she turned and started walking again.

"But you heard Mustang, we're supposed to stay-" "I don't give a damn about what Mustang said," She spat.

"I'm going home so I can enjoy my last few peaceful moments," she sighed as she walked out of the building. The boys went running after her.

"H-Hikari!" Al said, trying to catch up to her but was stopped.

"No, Al," Ed put his hand out in front of Al's. Hikari stopped when she heard the clanking of the armor stop.

"Let her go," Ed said as he watched Hikari start walking again. She stormed off down the road. She turned a corner and punched an alley wall, creating a hole in it as her fist began bleeding.

"Damn it, Mustang!" She roared. She closed her eyes, hand still in the hole that she made. The street lamp above her turned on. It was already dark out.

"I take it you're upset with the Colonel?" a familiar voice asked Hikari. She opened her eyes and sighed.

"Hey, Hawkeye..." she said. She addressed First Lieutenant Riza Hawkeye formally, even when they were alone. She thought it was the least she could do.

"What is it this time?" the blonde asked as she walked with Hikari carrying a grocery bag in one hand and Hayate's leash in the other.

"He said that King Bradly had me and the Elric brothers team up even though he said that it would never happen!" Hikari said as she took the bag, helping Hawkeye.

"The orders were from the Furher?" she asked. Hikari nodded.

"Well, it's not like he can argue with that, you know..." the blonde said. Both females sighed.

"Change of subject, how's your eye?" Hawkeye asked.

"It's better...thank you for asking, First Lieutenant..." Hikari said as she looked up to the sky. Hawkeye looked over to her.

"Are you going to stop by for a visit? Hayate seems to miss having you around," she said as the Shiba Inu barked happily. Hikari looked down at him and sighed.

"I think that answers your question," she said as Hawkeye smiled warmly in her direction.

"Plus, I don't want to disrupt Hughs's family anymore," she said.

"I'm sure they wouldn't mind...Their place is a bit bigger than mine, however," Hawkeye said. She knew that the girl just didn't want to deal with Hughes' affection just yet. Soon, they reached the apartment building. Hikari almost dropped the bag of groceries when she saw who was standing in the hallway of Hawkeye's apartment.

"Are you kidding me...?" her eye twitched as she sat the bag down and Hayate ran around the short blonde teen.

"You can't just ditch us!" Ed yelled as he pointed a finger to Hikari.

"Quit yelling," she said as she narrowed her eyes and crossed her arms. Hawkeye unlocked the apartment door and the brothers went to enter but Hikari stood in front of them.

"No," she spat as she blocked the entrance. Hawkeye sighed as she shut the door behind her.

"Outside. Now," she growled as she pointed down the hall. They walked outside.

"What happened to you?" Al asked noticing how upset she was.

"I got paired with a tin man and a pipsqueak! That's what happened to me!" She came unglued as Ed's vein popped. Al was hurt.

"Pipsqueak?!" He yelled.

"Yeah, a short little man who doesn't know how to give someone their privacy. What the hell's wrong with you?" Hikari's veins almost popped out of her forehead, slightly hurting Al's feelings.

"What's wrong with us?! What's wrong with you?!" Ed asked her. Hikari was reminded of her dream...The voices...

"What's wrong with you?!"

She put a hand to her eye. She had been trying to avoid her old friends...

"H-Hikari are you...?" Al paused. Hikari was snapped out of her trance. She furrowed her eyebrows as she looked to the ground, her eyes being shielded by her hair. Ed and Al looked to each other with worried glances.

"I...I didn't mean to..." her shoulders began shaking. Ed's eyes softened.

"I just thought...I could bring them back...She wasn't supposed to be there...She wasn't..." She fell to her knees and held her head in her hands.

"..." Ed and Al didn't know what to say.

"I just want everything to be normal again..." She mumbled quietly. The boys looked down at her once more before looking away with pitiful expressions. They didn't know what she was talking about.

"I want everyone back," She said as her tears flowed harder and she startled the boys.

"Mom...Dad...Sienna..." She said as she completely sunk into the grass, face first. She felt the cool dew make contact with her skin. It clicked. Apparently, so did the girl. She returned to normal as if she was only in a trance. She stood up and gave the boys a deadly stare.

"Leave," she said.

"What?" Ed asked. Hikari furrowed her eyebrows as turned away.

"I'm going somewhere. If you follow me, I'll squish you like a bug," she said, walking off.

"Are we going to follow her, brother?" Al asked. Ed shook his head, watching his old friend get farther away.

"No...We'll find her in the morning," Ed said before walking in the opposite direction of Hikari. Hawkeye, who had been watching from her window, sipped her tea.

"They really care about you, Adanet" Hawkeye smiled slightly.

Elsewhere...

Hikari was on the door of the Hughes' residence. She went to knock but stopped, resting her hand on the door.

"Not yet...I'm not ready for the Hughes," she mumbled as she sat down. She leaned against the door, thinking of Ed and Al.

"I'm not ready for them either..." she said as she closed her eyes.

"Leave the past as the past for now..." she found herself drifting off to sleep and unable to stop. She slumped over. Suddenly, the lights inside turned on.

"I thought I heard talking..." a male voice said as the door was opened and Hikari fell back onto the floor. She was so tired that she didn't wake up. Mayes Hughes, who had opened the door, was confused.

"Hikari...?" he raised an eyebrow. When he got no response, he sighed.

"You could have come in before falling asleep," he said as he scooped her up and took her to a spare room. He pulled the covers back and tucked her in.

"Honestly..." he smiled to himself as he watched her for a second.

"We'll talk in the morning," he said as he turned the light off, leaving a sleeping girl in the dark.
