Chapter 0 I Don't Wanna Be You Anymore
This story begins with loss. Loss of faith in oneself, loss of hope of unrealistic dreams and loss of innocence by the hands of that which people call "heroes". The protagonist of our story is Midoriya Izuku, a quirkless boy who has had it rough in his life. Being tormented by someone you considered a friend and being told you will never be what you dream of by someone you deeply admired, wouldn't you have broken up too?
Well, whether you would or would not is not really going to change anything. After all, the decision of giving up is not yours but Midoriya's to make. Having said that, we found ourselves in Midoriya's room. Moments after trying to save what he used to call a friend, Bakugou and be nagged about how dangerous it was of him to commit such heroics acts.
"Izuku?" His mom called out as she knocked on Midoriya's door. He didn't answer, he couldn't. What was the point? All of his dreams, hopes, his everything… had been shattered in a matter of minutes. 'You can't be a Hero' Midoriya repeated those familiar words over and over in his head.
"I'm fine mom" He managed to say. Though, his voice sounded so quiet his mom could barely hear him.
"I made you your favorite" She said softly, trying to make her son open up. If only a little.
Midoriya smiled weakly, but tears soon started to fall and hit his pillow. "I… I want to be alone right now, mom"
Midoriya's broken voice broke his mom's soul. She herself felt like crying too and rested her forehead against Izuku's door. 'This is my fault' thought Midoriya's mother as her lips started to quiver. "I'm… sorry" she apologized. But even that apology, hurt just the same as the first one when Midoriya was a kid.
'No mom,' Midoriya thought. 'Those are not the words I want to hear' Midoriya wiped away his tears and looked at himself in the mirror. Ah, how pitiful did he look. His hair was a mess, puffy eyes from the crying and his skin looked a little pale. He stood up and walked closer to it, fingertips touching the mirror lightly as he stared at himself with dead eyes.
"Why are you like this?" Midoriya asked himself, a sudden anger boiling inside him as he retrieved his right hand and clenched it into a fist. "Why are you so useless!?" Midoriya shouted and with all the strength he could muster, punched the mirror. As some parts of it broke and fell, he punched the mirror again with his left fist. Both of his knuckles were starting to bleed and his eyesight was blurry again.
Midoriya blinked the tears away as his mom quickly rushed to his room and held him back in a hug with tears of her own, hoping to prevent her son to hurt himself any further. Midoriya just shouted in frustration and despair, while his mom tried to comfort him the best she could. Eventually, Midoriya hugged her back and cried on her shoulder. The world was unfair, tormenting a boy by giving him high hopes only for those hopes to be crushed down.
After Midoriya's mother treated his wound and let him eat so he could regain part of his energy, Midoriya was back in his room. Nighttime had fallen and Midoriya looked at his bandaged hands and clenched them into fists. "I don't want to be you anymore…"
