I've posted this before and somehow it got deleted so I've added a few minor details and decided to repost it.

Growing Old

The once long black, silky hair was now a dark shade of gray, but the silkiness was still prevalent. Her thick rimmed secretary glasses were still a feature, but now had thicker lenses for her aging eyesight. The eyes behind her glasses still glimmered that deep emerald color in the sun. Her once flawless, pale skin now had a few wrinkles around her eyes and mouth and the bags under her eyes were not as easy to cover up in her younger days.

Alex looked on at herself in the mirror. She couldn't help but to compare herself to the younger version of herself on the vanity in the bathroom. Back then, she could actually sit on the floor without worrying about how sore she was going to be the next day, and she could get out of bed without something making a horrific cracking noise. One thing that Alex still took pride in was how perfect she still kept her plucked eyebrows.

A slight snore could be heard from where she was standing in the restroom. Smiling to herself she couldn't help but turn around and lean against the door frame to look on at her sleeping wife.

Today was her and Piper's fortieth wedding anniversary. Not to forget the ten years before that. Even though eight of those were spent separated. Throughout those fifty years together, they had endured heartbreak, pain, joy, and love. Those fifty years also brought them two children, and four grandchildren. Never did Alex think that she would be a wife, a mother, or even a grandmother, but that special someone can change that all in an instant. And Piper was her someone special. It took one look at that college bar near Smith College to pull her in.

Piper was beginning to stir, breaking Alex from her thoughts. The once blonde haired woman had continued to dye her hair once it started to turn gray, but Alex told her to embrace it. If she herself could deal with the gray, so could she. Slowly, Piper began to latch on to the whole embracing concept but in baby steps.

Alex gazed over her wife as she watched Piper roll over and open her eyes. The sunlight filling their lilac colored bedroom cast a magnificent glow upon the younger woman.

Slightly stretching to reach out to find her wife, but finding Alex's side cold and empty, Piper scanned the room. Alex smiled to herself as she watched her lover make eye contact and smile as she laid her head back down on her pillow.

Never breaking the eye contact, Alex made her way back to her side of the bed and carefully crawled in. Piper immediately grasped Alex's hand and intertwined their fingers, kissing across her knuckles.

The bond that Alex and Piper had created over the past fifty years was near impenetrable. They were what their children aspired to be in their own marriages; strong and loving. From the years of the cartel to now fifty years later, Piper and Alex had formed their realm of love and honesty.

"Happy Anniversary, Pipes." Alex whispered slightly craning her neck to place a gentle but loving kiss upon her wife's lips.

"Happy Anniversary, Al."

Despite their outward features, the couple was still young at heart. In each of their vows to each other, they had vowed to grow old with each other and that vow was held true.

A/N: Hi! Long time no post. A lot has been going on here. Cracked sternum, graduation, the list goes on and on. I'm actively working on posting a chapter for one of my other unfinished fics. I'm just not sure which one yet.

Thanks for sticking around!

Cheers.
