Scorpius Malfoy was nervous.

He was currently standing in line, waiting to be sorted into one of the four houses. His father had reassured him that he wouldn't care what house the sorting hat would place him in. On the other hand, Scorpius did care. He didn't want to be stuck in Hufflepuff. He doubted he would be placed in Ravenclaw, for he wasn't particularly smart.

It seemed to him that he would be placed in either Slytherin or Gryffindor. Those two houses were almost complete opposites though! There was no way of guessing which house he would be placed in. Scorpius groaned as his thoughts had only succeeded in bringing him more turmoil.

"Malfoy, Scorpius!"

He raised his head, surprised at hearing his name called. As he realized it was his turn to be sorted into a house, he gulped. Scorpius walked slowly, hearing whispers as he did so.

"Malfoy? Wasn't his father a Death Eater?"

"I heard his grandfather was the right hand man of You-Know-Who."

He sighed. His father had warned him this might happen. However, Scorpius refused to let the whispers affect him as he stood straighter, finally reaching his destination. The hat was put on his head, obscuring his view of the seemingly endless amount of people who stared at him.

"Hmm interesting," said a voice in his ear. "Intelligent, cunning, courageous. Eager to prove yourself, eh? Determined and daring. I see, I've decided – GRYFFINDOR!"

Scorpius heard the hat shout the last word to the entire hall. The hall was silent until a boy with unruly black hair stood up, clapping to congratulate the new addition to the Gryffindor house. Soon the rest of the Gryffindor table joined in. As the hat was lifted off his head, Scorpius joined the table, sitting in a space that had opened up for him.

He was the first Malfoy to ever be sorted in Gryffindor. Scorpius grinned to himself, imagining how his father would react when he told him.
