What I said was true—holding back the beast was what made him a man. What I never told him, or anyone, was that, before the rest of the Titans found us, he transformed back—but the beast was still in control. He doesn't remember it. I'm glad.
My teammates will never know the whole story. Because I'll never tell.
A dull, throbbing ache invaded every inch of Raven's body as she woke. Where was she? There'd been a beast—and Beast Boy. He'd transformed, taken her someplace. It was dark.
She inhaled, and regretted it. Sewage. She was in the sewers? Groaning, she sat up. The pain was receding, and she could dimly see a green shape ahead of her.
"Beast Boy?" she asked. It was barely more than a croak. Where was the other beast, anyway? Had he driven it off?
The shape turned toward her, and into the scarce light. It was Beast Boy—but he was different. He looked—older. Not like the time Mad Mod aged Robin, more like just a few years had been skipped. His hair was longer, as if he hadn't cut it in years, and Raven had a sudden suspicion that he'd be taller than her if she stood up.
What had happened to him? Was this really Beast Boy? She tried to stand, but her vision swam and she stumbled. The ground was tilting upwards, but then it stopped. Feeling arms around her from behind, catching her, she looked up and into his eyes.
It was definitely BB, green eyes, skin, and hair. But his uniform was in shreds, stretched tight over a larger frame than it had been fitted to. And his eyes were green, yes, but different. They were utterly and completely wild.
Raven froze, hypnotized by the feral nature there. She had the faintest inkling that she should be afraid, but the emotion wasn't there.
What was this beast within him? Why was he in human (or at least humanoid) form? Shouldn't it be stuck in animal form?
Then her thoughts were broken as she felt him pull her to him, and he growled, "Mine." Confused, she tried to turn around, but only found herself in more trouble. His arms were around her, her hands were on his chest, and his torso was pressed to hers.
Dimly she realized that she had been right, he was taller than her, but the awareness was lost on her as his mouth was suddenly on hers.
What was going on? Why had he claimed her as his? And, why was he kissing her? Then another question popped in: why wasn't she stopping him?
The emotions roaring through her blood were beginning to get out of control as the kiss deepened. Raven needed to stop this before her tenuous strands of control snapped and the hell of her powers broke loose.
Pulling all of her awareness inward, she dragged herself into a trance as something crashed in the distance.
