Katniss' POV

Now that I have money I can afford prim a birthday gift, I think to myself, "candy" I whisper and grab my old leather bag and head into town. I stop by the bakery and talk with the baker who kept my sister alive, I ask him if Peeta's around but he's down in the house in the victor's village. I buy a pretty pale blue cake for prim. And then I head down to the sweetshop and buy prim everything from peppermints to small colorful chewy candies, and chocolate. Oh how the Everdeens love chocolate. I buy extra and head to a small shop and buy a colorful bag and ribbon. I head back home, excited to see Prim's reaction. I invite over Peeta and Haymich for a small celebration after all they both favor Prim and in Haymitch's case, more than me. My mother has decorated up the house a bit; Prim will be surprised when she gets home from school. I let Peeta do a little more pretty little icing decorations on the cake. I wrap the presents and even Haymitch throws in a gift, hair ribbons. Peeta gives her lots of the bakery's finest and my mother gets her a few books. My mother even washed buttercup and lady for the occasion and put bows on their necks. The doorknob turned and Prim walked in, surprised. "Happy Birthday Prim!" We all shouted. "Thank you!" She choked out, almost crying with happiness. "Thank you!" She choked again, "oh! Thank you!" She had never had so many gifts before. One by one she opened her gifts my mother purposely saved mine for last; her eyes widened at all the precious sweets we used to never be able to afford. "Oh thank you Katniss! Thank you!" She took me up in her arms. "Anytime," I replied pulling her in for a hug. That night we ate that beautifully designed pale blue cake designed by Peeta. Prim was nibbling on some cookies after the cake was gone. "This was the best birthday ever!" Prim said, smiling.
