A/N: Hey everyone! I just want to set the scene here: the prologue takes place several years after Mockingjay, when Katniss' daughter is 5 years old. Enjoy!
Prologue-Katniss' POV
The day dawns warm and slightly humid as we walk to the schoolhouse. Kat is in front with her father, chatting excitedly about her first day of school. I'm trailing behind them, guiding little Finn along.
When we reach the schoolhouse, there are already many children lining up. Kat runs to get in line, but halfway there, turns around and waves goodbye. Her blue eyes sparkle and her dark braid bounces against her red plaid jumper as she skips forward. I watch her go, and a strange feeling starts within me. I don't know how to feel.
There's something oddly familiar about this ordinary day, and as Kat turns one last time to wave goodbye, I finally understand what the feeling is. I smile as a young mockingjay lands on a tree near the school and begins to sing.
I have come full circle.
