AN: Hey! This is my first FF so please go easy on me!

Disclaimer: I do not own Warriors although I wish I did. I can dream though can't I?

Chapter One: Snow

Sunlight streamed though the makeshift den.

I stepped outside, and blinked rapidly until my eyes adjusted to the bright light of morning. Although I hadn't made much noise I heard Night stir slightly, but then stilled again.

"Oh come on Night! I know you're awake." I said while I poked his side.

"How did you know?" He asked.

"How could I not? I know your tricks and plus I'm your kin!"

He grunted, turned around, closed his eyes and pretended to be asleep. I poked his side and muttered loudly;

"Dear Starclan some cats can be so rude!"

"I heard that you know!" He said.

"I know! It was meant to be heard!"

I stalked further outside and stretched in the warm sun. Today was my day to scout the area for a river and a nice tree for our next stop. Alert for any taste, sound, or sight of a river or a good tree to make a nest in I started off.

As I walked I replayed the events of the last year in my head, and by the time I got back to the den around sun-high I had cried, laughed, peeled the bark off of trees in sheer anger, and felt grateful simply because I am alive.

"Find anything?" Night asked.

"A pretty good tree but no sign of a river." I responded slightly disappointed.

Night muttered something even my sharp ears couldn't catch.

"Excuse me? What was that?" I asked annoyingly.

"Nothing." He said quickly and sat next to Star who was eating a small thrush. Night gestured to the two remaining catches. I took the mouse leaving the starling to Night.

"You know," Star said. "I've been studying how birds fly for a while now and I th-"

"Don't get your hopes up, Star. Wont won't have a chance until we find them." Night interrupted coldly.

I glared at Night and he glared right back with a look that clearly said 'You know I'm right.' Star stared at both of us a trace of fear in her eyes.

"Well uh, I'm going to go ahead and start packing up camp. Don't mind me! Call if you need anything." Star timidly breaking the silence.

Once Star was out of ear shot I hissed at Night.

"Why did you do that?"

"There's no reason that Star should get all worked up for nothing. Both you and I know that it would most likely end in disappointment and she'd end up being heartbroken." Night said calmly.

"But what if it worked?"

"Then I'd stand corrected, but do you really think we have room for taking risks? Especially after…" He trailed off. He didn't have to finish either I understood him completely now, and I must say he was right.

"Fine you're right, but you could've broken it to her more gently!"

"No need. She took it pretty well."

I glared at him then turned tail and stalked away to help Star with the packing.

So what did you think? Please feel free to point out grammar or punctuation errors I absolutely hate incorrect grammar! I've read many great FF's with amazing concepts but then the grammar isn't all that good. :p I annoys the fudge out of me when I come across a grammar error and I'm sure there will be people like me that will be reading my stories.
