Josh Newman knocked gently on the door of a big, chic apartment building in Islington, London. The doormen answered, and let him in, out of the pouring rain outside. He walked up three flights of stairs to flat 3C, and knocked once again on the door. Finally, someone answered.
"Josh?" The young women wondered, leaning against the doorframe. Josh smiled.
"Hey." He leaned in, and hugged her, smiling as he smelled the nice freesia scent of her aura.
"I haven't seen you in ages." She remarked, running her fingers through her long, shiny dark hair. Josh followed her inside her flat. It was huge, and modern, with a huge, sleek plasma TV in one corner, and the latest appliances in the kitchen.
"So, how have you been?" Josh asked her, leaning against the marble counter top in the kitchen.
"Busy. So, what's it like, being immortal?" She asked him, crossing her arms over her chest.
"You should know." He smiled, running his hands through his long, blond hair.
"Immortality means different things to different people." She shrugged.
"It's…interesting. Sophie had a harder time with it, you know, never aging, and seeing our friends and family die."
"That's a price you got to pay if you want to live forever." There was a long, awkward silence.
"So how are things with you and-"
"Josh, you know that ended centuries ago." And Josh knew she wasn't kidding. "But what about you? I bet tons of girls are throwing themselves at you." He shrugged.
"The one girl who I want to be throwing themselves at me isn't." She frowned, and sighed.
"Life's always like that." Just for a moment, he got lost in her deep, cold eyes. "What's the real reason you're here, Josh?" She asked him softly. He stepped softly closer to her, and gently pressed his forehead against hers.
"I've been wanting to do this for years." She looked up at him, and noticed how much emotion was packed into his cool, blue eyes. It was quiet for a while, the only noise their steady breathing. And finally, Josh gently kissed her. It was like they were both frozen in time, and everything else stood still. Josh had always known there was a certain spark between them, and to be honest, he always had a huge crush on her. He smiled as she kissed him back, harder, running her hands through his hair. He wrapped his arms around her waist, drawing her closer to him, and sighed. This was the way things were supposed to be.
The next morning, Josh squinted his eyes at the sunlight pouring through the window curtains. He focused lightly on his aura, and the curtains blew shut. The young women next to him woke up at the smell of oranges. She turned over to face him, stroking his hair lightly his arm still wrapped around her waist. He smiled at her, and kissed her lightly on the forehead.
"I love you." He whispered. Virginia Dare smiled.
"I love you, too."
