It was quite strange with these new and unfamiliar powers. Can you imagine? A town called Storybrooke where "magical" creatures and fairytale princesses live. Just simply plucked from their land and placed in this town from a curse.

And here I was, waiting in the "evil queen's" vault for lessons. It felt kind of dumb, really. Like I was revisiting my broken childhood fantasy in a weird dream. But nearly everyone here was afraid of me not controlling my powers. I was for sure that—

"Okay, I'm here. Let's get this over with." Regina said from the top of the stairs, walking down and interrupting my thoughts. I jumped in my seat a little bit.

"Uh, okay… So how do these things work exactly? Target practice? Making this appear and disappear?" I asked. I didn't want to be here, I had things to finish. But Snow and David insisted for me to go. I went of course, it was the least I could do for accidentally knocking a few things down because of the control I didn't have on my powers.

Regina rolled her eyes, "Could you at least pretend that you're not an amateur?" She continued, "I'm having enough stress from this already."

Great, so neither Regina nor I wanted to be here. At least we agree on something: we both didn't want to come.

Regina handed me a candle. "Light this candle up." She demanded. I closed my eyes shut and wrapped my hands around the candle as tightly as I could, as if it would help the fire light the candle.

"Oh, come on." Regina said as she exaggerated on each word. I opened my eyes. No fire. "You can put as much pressure as you want, Emma. It's not going to come." She sighed.

"What then?" I asked lamely.

I waited for Regina to collect her patience, then she continued, "It's not about the pressure or how hard you hold the object. It's about the emotion. You have to connectwith your powers, having a feeling with it."

She was talking in riddles, but I tried to register everything in my mind as much as I could. Feel the power, feel the power, I repeated constantly in my mind.

I held the candle once again in my hands. In my mind, I imagined the same candle being lit. I pushed all of my energy from my body towards the candle and felt the adrenaline rush through my veins. I suddenly had a rush of heat surge through my body, as I realized that I had lit the candle. I opened my eyes as it widened in surprise.

"Well that was lame…and slow." Regina commented. As she watched me frown, she added, "But also good progress." A smile crept up on her face.

She continued, "Just three hundred more, then you'll finally reach beginners pace!"

Of course she had to add that snarky comment. But it was okay, because I was finally on my way to controlling my magic.

"Now, should we move on to a fireplace or a bonfire?" She wondered to herself aloud. I groaned. Here comes a long day.
