Inspired by the YouTube comment from Fidget Traps Olivia, "She would've been safer staying with Toby." Some believe that she was better off staying with Mrs. Judson, not that I agree with it (although I respect their opinion and some people agree with my opinion because each has his own), but now I see that her staying with Toby makes sense and for good reason: Fidget is afraid of him.
"Young lady, stay with Toby," Basil ordered Olivia.
"Why, Basil?" Olivia wanted to know.
"Because our peg legged friend is afraid of dogs and you're good with dogs," Basil replied and to Toby, "Come, Toby." He whistled and Toby set his nose close to the mice. Basil put her back on Toby's nose.
"And you're going to take good care of Toby, Olivia, dear," Dawson added.
"How long is it going to take?" Olivia asked, "Because I'm worried about what will happen to you."
"Don't worry about us," Basil assured her, "We'll track Fidget down with no trouble at all. So, you two, stay alert."
"It may take time," Dawson warned, "But at least you'll have something to do."
"May I hug you?" Olivia asked Basil, stretching out her arms.
"Sure," Basil sighed as he'd done the same and the girl jumped into his arms. The detective set her down.
She went over by Dawson to hug him. "Good luck, you two," she said.
"And both of you be good," Basil warned.
"We sure will," Olivia replied. She was a truthful little girl.
"And give him belly rubs," Dawson added with a chuckle.
"I will," Olivia giggled.
"Toby put your nose on the sill," Basil ordered and Toby did as he was told.
Olivia walked on his nose, then to his head, and the mouse detectives left the two alone. "You hear that, Toby?" Olivia whispered to the dog, "They're going to find the bat who took my father."
Toby sat down, unknowing that the girl was on his head, but Olivia thought this was a fun slide until she fell off the curb. The dog gasped, wondering where the girl went. Behind him, he spotted her on the curb. He let down his tail for her to reach and set her down back onto the curb.
"Toby, sit," Olivia commanded, in which Toby obeyed to.
"Good, now stay." Toby smiled at her, not making any movements. Smiling back, Olivia grabbed a cheese crumpet from her coat pocket. "You earned a crumpet." She lifted it up and Toby licked it out of her hand. "Such a good boy." She pet him and commanded, "Lie down." He lied down and she climbed onto the dog to rub his belly. She stopped to help herself to a cheese crumpet.
After a while, Olivia slid off and Toby sat up. Olivia climbed up to him. They patiently waited until the bat opened the door to find both the girl his boss, Ratigan wanted him to get and Toby, who frightened him away by growling. Fidget immediately slammed the door in fright. He was being chased by Basil and Dawson.
"Good boy!" Basil said. "Now let's all catch the bat together!" And down the streets they went to find Olivia's father.
…
Basil, Dawson, and Olivia cautiously tiptoed all the way to her father's confinement. Basil unlocked the door.
"Olivia!" Mr. Flaversham hissed.
"Father!" Olivia hissed and hugged her father.
"What are we going to do now before we catch Ratigan?" Dawson asked.
Basil took his partner's question in thought. "Hmm…we'll take them to our house."
Behind them, a bat panted. "Just what I needed," he sneered as he advanced himself closer.
"Oh, no you don't!" Basil retorted, shoving Fidget, who still was trying to get Olivia, but to no avail. So he flinched as he flailed his arms about.
"Don't harm my daughter!" Mr. Flaversham snapped.
"Good work, Fidget," Ratigan said, marveled that three mice arrived instead of one. "Instead of one mouse, you brought three, including Basil and his partner as extras. Congratulations." He patted Fidget on the head.
But the bat did not know what to feel. How to feel. As loyal as he was to his boss, Ratigan had done nothing for him in return. He put no trust in the poor bat. What is Fidget going to do?
Fidget sighed heavily. Something had changed within him. What is it? Shame? He had been kidnapped by Ratigan so long ago.
"Aww, what's wrong, Fidget?" Ratigan asked, feigning sympathy.
That was the moment when Fidget grew tired of Ratigan's evil ways, including his own. "Ratigan, I will not let you do these innocent mice any harm!" Fidget snapped.
"Oh, and why not, Fidget?" Ratigan demanded with his hands on his hips.
"For one, I don't care if I get fed to Felicia. Two, these are my new friends!"
Everyone in the room gasped in shock, but out of all of them, Ratigan was the most shocked.
"You call us your friends, even after what you've done to me?" Mr. Flaversham demanded.
"Uh…" Fidget uttered nervously.
"He's that same bat who worked for Ratigan," Olivia agreed.
"What do you have to say for yourself, Fidget?" Basil snapped.
"I…I feel h-h-horrible for what I d-did to you, guys and I w-want t-to make it up to you," Fidget stuttered.
"Really?" everyone, except Ratigan asked.
"Yes, and that, you know was mean to me," Fidget added. "He did nothing for me in return."
"Fidget, how dare you!" Ratigan protested as he put his finger under the bat's chin.
"And what did I ever do to you, Ratigan?" Fidget demanded, removing Ratigan's hand from his chin.
"N-n-nothing, Fidget," Ratigan stammered. "Nothing at all." He stepped backwards, never seeing Fidget angry before in his life. Ratigan didn't remember Fidget behaving like this to him before. Even if Fidget had, the rat couldn't recall, otherwise.
"Ratigan, you are under arrest for kidnapping and for making Mr. Flaversham build the toy queen to get rid of the real queen, which is regicide," Basil said as he and Dawson handcuffed the rat. "Thank you, Dawson."
"My pleasure, Basil," Dawson said.
Fidget and the others grinned as he watched his former boss get handcuffed and be taken to prison. From that day on, Fidget kept his promise that he will never hurt or kidnap any citizen ever again and became Basil's, Dawson's, Toby's, and the Flavershams' friend after he returned the stolen clothes from the toy shop.
The End
