An Undying Loyalty
Daphne Hime-Sama
Synopsis: Takes place during episodes 23 thru 25. We do know how Excel felt during and after Ilpalazzo shot her. But how did Ilpalazzo feel?
"You've got to do it!" A voice inside his head said. "All those who get in ACROSS's way must be destroyed."
Ilpalazzo walked down the cold, cavernous corridors of his fortress. A gun grasped tightly in his gloved hand and hesitation in his step. He could hear her cries for him from the out side.
"Lord Ilpalazzo! Just once let me see your face!" Her voice pleaded.
"But I can't!" He said out loud to the voice. "She was the most loyal agent I've ever had. She may have screwed up a lot, but I don't think."
"Don't let your emotions take control of your goal!" The voice interrupted his thoughts. "This is what you lived for your entire life. Don't throw it away for some woman!"
He was getting closer to the balcony at the end of the hall. Her voice grew louder. Just hearing her pledges of her loyalty to him brought back memories. What amazed him the most was no matter how much she botched her missions, her loyalty for him just grew greater and greater. Each time her speeches of admiration would be more and more enthusiastic. Even after all the times he dumped her in the pit just to get her to quite down. Hyatt never spoke of her loyalty to him. Right then he was regretting ever dismissing Excel.
"Lord Ilpalazzo this is your Excel!" Her voice cried out again.
He finally approached the balcony. He looked down to see Excel, saluting him. His most loyal agent was standing right below him. Her large green eyes were glowing with admiration. Just looking at them made him regret what he was about to do.
Squinting he aimed the gun at her breast. His hand was shaking. Even trough the glove, he could feel sweat trickling down his palm. Closing his eyes he squeezed the trigger. The rest was happened so fast. The bullet flew and hit Excel exactly where he aimed it.
He saw Excel put her hand to her chest to feel what had hit her. She then took a look at her hand. Blood was running down her chest and between her fingers. With her bloodied hand she reached out to him. Still smiling.
"Il.pala.zzo," she said before falling into the sand.
He forlornly turned away. He could not look at her a moment longer. He walked away till he knew he was out of sight. Leaning against the wall of the dark hall, he slunk to the ground, looking down at the gun that shot her, the weapon that silenced her voice, quite possibly forever.
Taking a moment to catch his breath, he whipped out his cell phone. After dialing a few numbers he talked into the speaker. "Mission accomplished. We can move out now."
There was a deafening roar as the fortress's engines fired up. A gust of wind picked up, causing sand to swarm around the fortress. Ilpalazzo looked out the window at the figure lying lifeless in the sand. The life force that he admired so much was drained from her. Yet he had a feeling she was still alive. Her green eyes were still open, gazing vacantly at the sky.
Ilpalazzo looked at the gun once again, still shaking in his hand. He tossed it across the hall in disgust. "What.what have I done?" Ilpalazzo said to himself. "What have I become?"
He buried his head in his hands. For the first time in his life, he wept.
A/N: This was just my take on what happened after episode 23. Ilpalazzo seemed to regret what he had done to Excel didn't he? I just noticed that he didn't go crazy till after he shot and abandoned her. Maybe he needed Excel more than he though. Any way, I don't know if this first chapter will be the last. I might add another when the inspiration strikes. Until then.. Daphne Hime-Sama.
