"This means war!" Gimli roared.

Thranduil rolled his eyes. "Gimli, by the time your 'people' arrive, the elves would have died of old age!"

"Why you! If you weren't yon princelings father, then you would be dead."

"You would die before your first stroke fell." Thranduil calmly explained in a bored tone, obviously feeling that he could be doing better things with his time than harassing dwarves. Ever since that group of dwarves had offered to help rebuild the palace, Thranduil had lost his edge when it came to harassing the mud dwellers.

He began to inspect his nails for miniscule traces of dust. "Master Dwarf. If you have nothing more to say… it's your move."

Gimli grumbled under his breath as he returned to the game of Battle, determined to somehow get back his queen from the conniving king.

This was inspired by my brother, a late night and:

A) too much Lord of the Rings running through our heads and

B) me remembering a game of Chess.
