Hally's Night Out
Night of a full moon
Glowing pale across the city
She sprints through the streets
Shrouded in shadows
But she smiles
For clasped in her orange, gloved hand is a bag
Empty, but soon to be filled
Overflowing with candies and sweets
Her tail twitches, or so she believes
She skids to a stop and listens
But there is nothing but a slight breeze
Lingering a moment more, she adjusts her triangular black ears
Moves her mask right over her eyes
And picks up her speed again
The wind from running is sharp and cold
She is not faltered and continues jauntily
The first door to which she stops is ornate, ivory
Intricate carvings all over, even on the knob
She does not care and knocks loudly
The door creaks open, a small crack of light shining through
Penetrating the dismal black of the night exterior
When a frightened eye meets hers, the door is shut tight, the light gone
She smiles to herself again
Pleased to have frightened a citizen
And continues on her way
The next door she knocks on flies off its hinges upon impact
Its wood had been shabby, chipped, and written on
She finds a bowl of candy on the ground within, with a sign
Take one
She dumps all the contents from the bowl into her bag
Then she places a single chocolate back in the bowl
For Halloween's sake
But everyone knows that for a villain
Every day is Halloween
