Diggory could hear the song. It was something he had not heard for a very long time. He closed his eyes and he was back, watching the creation of Narnia with Polly, Frank and Fledge. He could see the first sunrise, see the trees and bushes springing into life. How he longed to return.

He was roused from these musings by a knock on the door.

"Come in." It was the eldest two children. They looked greatly troubled, so Diggory found them chairs and told them he was at their disposal.

"Well, sir," the boy began, "it's our sister..."

Diggory sat and listened with great curiosity. He could barely believe what he was hearing. They spoke of a lamp post in a wood, a faun and a witch. Could their little sister really have discovered a way to Narnia through a wardrobe in his house? His thoughts took him to the wardrobe he'd had made from the wood of the tree grown from the core of the apple that had healed his mother. He then realised the children had stopped talking a few minutes ago.

"How do you know" he asked "that your sister's story is not true?"

The poor children were so confused. The boy, Peter, was having difficulty in believing what he had always believe, that his little sister always told the truth; and the girl, Susan, was rambling on about logic which was, in his eyes, completely illogical! He blamed the schools.

Diggory did his best to make them understand, but they were both so 'logical' that they eventually tried his patience so much he told them it was best for them to mind their own business. He could not understand how they were not excited by the prospect of another world.

That night, Digory could not help himself. Hearing of the little girl's adventure had awakened something inside him he had not felt for a long time. He had to find the wardrobe.

After a long search, he stumbled into the spare room.

"Oh Aslan" he whispered, approaching the wardrobe, "please!" He closed his eyes as he grasped the handle.

"My Son, why do you try, when you know you can not?" Diggory knew that voice, how could he ever forget? He looked around the room but could see no source for the voice.

"But Aslan, is it true? Has the girl discovered Narnia?"

"She has, as has her nearest brother. The other two will soon learn the truth."

"Will I ever get back?" he pleaded

"Remain faithful, and perhaps one day, beyond the shadow lands, you will see me again"

"Thank you Aslan, I will" he smiled. "Was it you who awakened the memory of the song today?"

"Aslan?" he had gone. Diggory sighed and turned from the room. Heading back to bed, his head was full of a letter he would write to Polly in the morning, and a song he had heard a very long time ago.
