Chapter 1: Swings and Sorrows We were opposites. Yet we came together. Sun and moon, water and fire, summer and winter. Opposites attract they say. We knew that was true.
A Diana and Shadow Story *Diana s POV*
Amy, you ll get through this. Sonic was a jerk. You deserve way better, I convinced my sad friend. Amy and Sonic had just broken up over a big fight. I came over to try and comfort her. You know, watch chick flicks, make popcorn, just sit and talk. She was starting to cheer up, but just know she had begun to remember what had happened the day before.
I know, but what if I don t? What if I shrivel up and die? Amy sniffed. What if I wilt? You won t wilt, I assured her, patting her on the back.
My bright yellow hair covered my face. I subtly pulled it back in a high pony. Amy sniffed again. Amy, why don t we go to the park? Member when we used to go there all the time when we were little? Fine. We headed out. The park was nearby, about 5 minutes from the house. We had gone her almost every day during past summers. Now that we were older, however, it had become less and less of a routine.
More sniffs from Amy.
Are you okay? I asked her quietly.
Yeah. It s just that Sonic and I were so perfect.
I know I mumbled to myself.
Amy stopped short. Her eyes opened wide. What? What do you see? I asked, a little nervous. What if she saw Sonic? More importantly, what if she saw Sonic with another girl?
The swings! she exclaimed. Di, do you remember when we used to go on those all the time? Can we please go on them? I was shocked. I expected it to be something worse. But, oh well. It seemed she forgot about Sonic. I smiled.
Of course we can, Amy, I told her. Race you there! I m gonna win! she said, running super fast over to the swings.
Nuh-uh! I replied, picking up speed. I purposely let her win.
YES! she shouted, pulling her fist down. I finally beat you! It was true. I am pretty fast. Not faster than Sonic, of course, but speedy anyway.
On the swings, we swung higher and higher and higher until we almost flipped over backward.
OMG, I m gonna flip over! Amy screamed, holding on for dear life.
I almost forgot how fun this is! I replied.
We were 16, way too old to be on the swings anyway. But who s gonna stop us?
Then I saw a well shadowy figure.
Amy, who is that? I asked, turning to her. But she was still laughing and screaming. I guess I ll go check it out for myself, I thought. I slowed down and hopped off the swing. I learned to do that early on.
Where ya goin ? Amy yelled after me. She didn t get a reply, so she bounced after me, but I was still ahead, trying to get to the shadowed figure.
Hey! I called. No response. The figure kept moving.
HEY YOU! I called again.
Diana, I think that s Shadow, Sonic s friend, Amy said, suddenly appearing behind me. I met him once. Do you know anything about him? I asked her.
Nope, only that he s really quiet, she said.
We should go talk to him, I said.
Amy rolled her eyes. I was always trying to talk to people, usually resulting in them walking away. Whatever. We would talk to him, I was determined.
