"I Know Who You Are", said the dark voice that was only a deep rumble. "I know your voice. I know your ways. I know your mind. I know you."

The girl stared for a moment almost unconcerned. Finally she uttered "impossible" She looked into the luminous eyes shining through the darkness-the only thing she could see of his form. He did not answer the silent challenge. "I do not know you", she tried again. "You are no more to me than the stranger that hides in the darkness of my gilded cage."

He did not deny the accusation. "I am the apparition that seeks your essence. I long for nothing more than you"

The girl almost screamed in aggravation. She settled for an almost inhuman growl. The sound seemed to change the way his eyes shown at her. They seemed just slightly more . . . predatory. For some reason the thought appealed to her. A lot. "W-will you not at least show yourself to me. Perhaps I would not mind granting your wish."

The gold eyes widened minimally and she gloried in the thought that she was able to surprise him. Through all their many nights of verbal sparring he had always remained emotionless save for the words that he spoke.

"You court a fate you should not" was all he said. She shook her head and got out of her comfortable bed in order to take a step toward him, ignoring the rattle of the chain that withheld her freedom. The move was half invitation and half challenge. Her captor growled deep in his throat and the girl shivered in reaction. The twitching of his pupils told her that he'd seen the small movement. Normal people's eyes did not do that. Then again normal people did not spirit women away in the dark of the night. Their eyes did not shine in that same darkness.

This time, for reasons neither of them could fathom, he took her up on her offer.

Slowly he took a step. Both of them stood in stunned silence for no more than a moment before they took another step in perfect synchronization.

Their eyes never left each other as they took one more, and another, and another, until they were standing less than a hair's breadth away from each other in the circle of the moonlight streaming through the single barred window.

The girl gasped in a breath as she took in his almost beautiful countenance. His eyes changed and his pupils twitched again while she continued to stare in wonder. His lips crashed onto hers as a cloud passed extinguishing the moon's light.

I wanted this little scene to be somewhat haunting. in that quiet, instinctual way. :) Is it? lemme know. 'specially if you have some idea how it could have been better.
