I do not own Harry Potter, although I did come up with this idea :)
...Vernon writes a letter to Harry shortly after the war ends...
Apologies
Harry,
A lot has happened since I last saw you, I have seen things I will never forget. I know we have never exactly met eye to eye, but I want you to hear me out. I have changed my ways Harry, I now realise how wrong I was, about you, your people, everything. I want you to know that I no longer think you are a freak, you never were one. When you were younger, I saw you as a threat, I mistreated you, locked you away, and you were only a boy. I feel deeply ashamed at myself for doing this, if I had a chance to redo everything, I would.
Over these past few months, I've had a chance to think, in fact its all I have been doing. Even after everything we have done wrong by you, you still made sure we were safe, and I haven't forgotten the time when you saved my Dudley from those dim demantles dismembers dementors. Anyway, the point is, you never gave up on us, and this is my way of saying, sorry. I do not blame you if you never want to see us again, and I don't expect you to forgive me. But I write this letter in the hope that I can come to terms the overwhelming guilt I now feel, although I know I will never forgive myself.
Thank you for taking the time to read this,
Yours,
Uncle Vernon

Thanks for reading
Ok, some of you may think this is out of character or whatever, but I think whilst spending all that time with wizards during the last book, the Dursleys would have had plenty of chance to reflect on their actions. Also, I don't believe that he was totally evil, he was human, just like everyone else.
