The soft sweet music floated through the air of the Great Hall. The sky of the hall let small delicate snowflakes fall to the ground. Fred sat alone on a chair beside the dance floor at the Yule Ball. His date, Emily Winters, had stood him up and from across the floor he could see her dancing with Jonathan Turner. Fred cringed. He looked around him, maybe some other girl had been stood up and he could ask he to dance instead of sitting here looking like a fool. Fred searched the room, no one. He stood up in dismay, grabbed a cup of pumpkin juice by the door and wandered outside into the garden.
Fred sat under a large Silver Birch tree in the courtyard. Fred was alone in the courtyard besides Draco Malfoy and Kate Diamanté.
"Listen Draco, I don't care how bloody rich you are, your father is a malevolent, duplicitous man and I don't care how much bloody money he has, you can't buy my love!" Kate raved angry at Draco
"Shut up Kate!" yelled Draco, Kate looked slyly towards Draco and spoke up a little louder
"Everyone knows your families little secret Draco, your fathers a Death Eater!" Draco tried to silence her
"Shut the hell up Kate!" he barked
"I'm sick of you, sneaking around, I know what you're telling Pansy, you can't have both of us, it's me or her Draco, pick one because you can't have us both!" Draco stammered
"I can't believe you Draco! You are your family, you're all cruel and malicious, I'm taking a stand!" Fred tried to ignore the pair and took a sip of his pumpkin juice.
Draco stood there, red-faced and shaking, it only took a few seconds before an ear slipping slap broke the dull night-time peace. Kate slumped over a chair, covering her face. Fred turned around in an instant and rushed to her side. Draco disappeared from sight as soon as Fred came to Kate's aid. He cupped her face in his hands. A small cut on Kate's lip was the only blemish on her face, tears welted in her big grey-blue eyes.
"Thankyou" she whispered to Fred
"Are you ok?" he asked sympathetically
"Yes, I'm fine now" Kate stood up
Fred had only now just noticed her dress, it was a deep satin blue dress which ripped down to the floor from the waste.
"Do you want to, erm, go dance" Kate asked nervously, Fred smiled widely
"Yeah, sure" Kate smiled widely as well and they both walked into the Hall. The sweet music continued to play as Fred lead Kate to the middle of the dance floor. As Kate danced snowflakes caught on her dress. Kate leant into Fred and rested her head on his shoulder. Emily turned around to look at Fred and he just simply smiled her way
